Part of this is our polticians don't make enough effort to make their names known. It would be nice if they reached out more with what they want to propose and what they've been doing for Canadians.

I could see the blackrock angle as trying to appease the working class. Like "see we hate big wealth too" but then never actually do anything to hurt blackrock.

The boy scouts one is especially baffling. A lot of boys become more traditionally "manly" through boy scouts. It is physically active and they typically learn skills like camping, fire starting, wood working. We were also expected to do good deeds, be polite, and overall be decent members of society that help where is needed, such as litter clean ups and tree plantings. I guess the latter half of my point is where their issues start?

We need to build a country that can support the increased immigration. That means building denser and more affordable apartments and homes. It means investing in transit to move people. It means investing in healthcare to care for our population. It means investing in manufacturing and other sectors to ensure job growth and keep Canada producing things. Instead our politicians are using immigration as cheap labour while we keep growing the housing bubble and stagnate on production.

Bus lanes are too easy for the next politician to remove bus priority and allow cars back into the lane. At least with rails it's a lot more costly to remove the route. Busses also still contribute to microplastics and tire waste compared to railed trams. Trams are also easier to automate which can make employing drivers and adding trams to lines less difficult compared to buses. The rails are also more effecient as there is less friction.

I'd defintely take BRT over no transit but many cities are dense enough to justify electrified trams.

Many cities paved over their tram lines. Sometimes they poke through during road work. We had trams in nearly every city 100 years ago yet today people tell me we can't afford it or our population is too small to support it. If we could do it 100 years ago we could certainly do it now.

Going backwards while the rest of the world builds more functional and fair cities. We feel just as bad up here in Canada where our provincial premier is overstepping cities to force them to remove bike lanes that just got installed. The lanes are along a subway corridor and there are several apartment buildings planned on those roads that have extensive bicycle parking plans with much less car parking. And we've got big plans for new highways while we refuse to build rail along the densest part of our nation.

How many times will techbros reinvent the train/tram until North America finally starts laying down rails?

It almost feels like they want us to keep flipping sides every few years and never make any progress. It just feels so stagnant and every time we make progress like bike lanes, someone else reverses all that work and spends even more money.

One thing that could help would be the liberals pushing forward a new leader. People are fed up with Justin regardless if it is justified. The liberal party will lose voters to the right if they don't push forward a new face that Canadians are willing to give a fresh shot. If the liberals fail to provide new leadership to their party, they are partially at fault for a conservative win, they refuse to listen to their voter base.

The way his supporters talk is like this, if it is something they like, they claim Trump singlehandedly did that thing. If it is something they don't like, they claim the fucking government is holdng Trump back from his real goals.

I think a lot of people think trump is good for economy for reasons like stripping away environmental regulations. Sure it might make a company cheaper to operate without regulations but often times it is exponentially more expensive to deal with the damages.

First it was ontario is open for business, under pierre all of Canada will be "open for business". They would sell every ounce of Canadian fresh water to just to watch a dozen people get rich.

I'm Canadian and have a friend in Canada who is unemployed, mentally ill to the point of collecting disability and lives with his mother who is mentall ill and physically disabled. They both rely on extensive government support programs like disability payments, mental health care access, pharmaceutical benefits, and our healthcare system.

This friend of mine wants to vote for our right wing conservative party who will strip most if not all of these supports away from him and his family. I just don't understand how someone can vote against themselves like this, he's gobbled up the propaganda. My heart goes out to all who will suffer under the new American government.

As a Canadian who has watched our politics slowly try to mimic America's, I'm terrfieid. As it is our conservative provincial premier is ripping out bike lanes on city streets that have apartments being built right now that offers significantly more bike parking than car parking. Its backwards progress, a signifcant amount of the lanes were just built and now we gotta spend more money ripping them out because some fat conservative feels offended he is too unfit to cycle.

Under trump i doubt much "freedom inhibiting" transit will be built. And bike lanes are ablist so they are gone. Sidewalks will be gone too as only "poor people" walk so why waste taxes on them. Hell, he might even rip out a railway to build a highway, cause that's more american.
