  • Malls came out as a solution to the lack of community a planner/developer saw in the relatively new suburban experiment. He hoped malls would blend shopping, community, and socializing all into one place, similar to how the mixed use, mid rise neighbourhoods would feel. Unfortunately the mall fell prey to captialism and as automobiles kept becoming more popular, the mall was less about community and more about a convenient shopping experience.

The developer who made the mall regrets it, it didn't turn out to be a beacon of community like he had hoped and instead it further promoted isolation, suburbia, and car dependancy in our cities.

  • I think the best course of action for most of the old stores is developing the land into housing and mixing commercial and residential zoning more. Trying to find another big box store for the place is follwing the same path we have for the last 50 years, promoting further capitalism and isolation in our communities.

Redeveloping the stores into mid or high rise density would help alleviate the housing crisis a bit. Most locations are probably already pretty close to transit corridors as well, making it possible for people in these new developments to live without a car if needed, reducing transportation emissions and cost of living for those individuals. A big big big part of our housing crisis and cost of living crisis lies in the fact we almost exclussivly build SFH, many of which have been getting bigger over the years.

Canada has been threatened by our neighbour that we used to look up to. Its time to ask if we want to keep following the devleopment policy and practices they use, or consider using some of the practices more common in the European Union (transit and density) which many Canadians are ready to join.

  • I wonder if the survey asks people multiple times throughout multiple days. Like you ask me in the morning of a hangover I'm definitely down a few rungs compared to the night before. It would be best to know where the average rung you're on is.

  • Eh, their policies are more like "fuck average canadians and protect the rich." Their slogans and talking points are fuck Trudeau and fuck "carbon tax Carney" (carney is eliminating the carbon tax anyway which shows how poorly informed conservative slandering is).

  • In hockey "elbows up" is a sign a player would like to fight. In this context Canadians are telling America if you want to start a trade war and question our sovereignty, we are gonna put up a fight instead of just bending over.

  • I'd bet a significant enough chunk of the US military is against annexation and would resist orders to invade. Canada and US have basically been brothers in arms for 100+ years, thats a hard culture to throw away for no real threat. The average US infantry is not going to feel like they are fighting for freedom by annexing Canada.

  • I heard on the radio this morning that the original tarrifs are in effect. Trump was going to add even more tarrifs to steel and aluminium but decided not to once Ford backed down from the electricity surcharge. My understanding was the surcharge was supposed to be a response to the tarrifs and were to remain in place until all the new tarrifs were dropped.

  • This is exactly what he wants. Lets not play his game of making headlines and changing our minds every few days like he is. If America is truly so great, they can afford the surcharge. You want Canada to stop the surcharge? End the stupid trade war you started.

We need to show we have the backbone to stand up against him and follow through with our own plans and threats. Showing that we will change our mind just gives him more control.

  • Also access to shaving products and accessories is getting easier. Hand held electric razors are getting smaller and can do a lot of the work before a blade makes a smooth finish.

That said, as a male i hate shaving my privates smooth. I find the hair acts as a natural lubricant, without hair everything either gets sticky or feels slimy down there.

  • Calls an emergency election in order to re-elect himself. Party proceeds to not provide a platform until the very last few days of voting. The overall provincial government sees very little change with low voter turn outs again

Why is he allowed to call an emergency election without significant reason? If justfiied, wouldn't an emergency election have a relatively high voter turn out? How can the party that called for an election not have a platform published day 1? How is a guy who is currently being investigated by the RCMP for corruption even allowed to run until thats cleared up?
