  • My current car is my first car that has a backup camera, and I actually find it much easier to see backing out of a space with the camera’s wide field of view.

Driving forward, especially in a sensible normal-sized sedan, your view can easily be blocked by someone’s giant Suburban on your left and Billybob’s overcompensating pickup truck on your right, both of which always come with shit parking jobs. Your best chance is to very slowly inch forward and hope any oncoming drivers notice the front of your car moving into the lane before your windows clear the taller vehicles.

But the backup camera sees 180 degrees from the bumper, so you can always see traffic in both directions well before any part of your car might get in anyone’s way.

  • I’m excited to buy it when it comes to PC, but my single-player rpg backlog is long already. I’ll probably end up waiting for a sale, which shouldn’t take too long if articles like this keep coming.

This will be my first single player FF since 10. I love XIV, so it seems to me that the hype of using the XIV team on this game wouldn’t add a huge amount of value to a PS5 exclusive release when the majority of XIV players are on PC, and others are still on PS4. It’s not like PC enjoyers and PS4-content players are going to go buy a PS5 just to play it early. They’re waiting for the port, then they’re waiting longer still for the port to be fixed.

  • I’ve been very happy with my Corsair Scimitar Elite. It’s not wireless though, but I use a Razer V3 bungee to keep the cable convenient. I tried Logitech’s cheaper MMO mouse first and it felt cramped, chinsey, and the side buttons felt sharp and jagged. The Scimitar solved all those problems for me. Before that, I used a Logitech G604, which I loved, but the switches failed just after the warranty expired - not an uncommon problem for those Omron switches. Hopefully I have better luck with the Scimitar’s. So far so good.

I’m a windows-using rube, and I know Corsair’s iCue won’t run on Linux because it requires .net, but if you have dual boot or a VM or access to a windows PC, then you can edit profiles in Windows and save them to the mouse hardware. The only thing you’ll miss is auto-changing profiles when you open an application, so be sure to bind a mouse key to switch profiles, and assign RGB that lets you know which profile you’re in. I assume this method would apply to any mouse with hardware profiles.

I prefer wireless mice too, so I also use a M65 Ultra for FPS games. I find myself using the MMO mouse for desktop though, because having page up/down and home/end on the mouse is great.

Here’s the thing about Bluetooth: it’s usually slightly laggy and will often take inconsistent time to connect. It’s generally not great for gaming because of the lag especially. That’s why gaming mice have a usb dongle that uses faster sample rate (Corsair has Slipstream, Logitech has Lightspeed, etc.) I’ve used both of those and they always wake up in <1s. When I switch to a simple Bluetooth mouse for my work laptop, I definitely feel the lag. If you’re short on usb ports, you should have no problems using a wireless mouse dongle on a hub.

  • This is not perfect… but:

I pack small bowls - small enough to entirely inhale till the embers go out, so that no smoke comes off the bowl after. Then crack open the outside door JUST enough to blow it all out the crack, then shut the door immediately. You’re basically kissing a tiny crack in the door, then shutting it. A fan won’t work - it’ll blow a bit of the smoke up and down and all over.

99% of the smoke goes into the lungs and out the door. The 1% still smells a bit though. If you cough, you fuck it up.

Then of course the weed itself smells - not much you can do about that. But it doesn’t seep into carpet/furniture as bad as smoke does.

Since you’re using a vape, try a cart (oil) instead and use the lowest temp you can stand. Do what you’re doing or try the window/door-crack method.

If you’re trying to hide it from others who live with you, you can’t. Just go find a spot outside and leave a hooded jacket and gloves there or in your trunk (but only if it’s legal and you can’t be harassed for smells.)

Only foolproof way is to buy edibles that are made elsewhere and keep them sealed. Febreze or dry shampoo can help a little with mild non-smoke smells after opening certain edibles.

  • Sony is taking advantage of audiophiles’ desire to compulsively spend more money on better measurements with imperceptible improvements. Nothing wrong with that - most audiophiles are self-aware and know that it’s really higher prices that make music sound better. It will be interesting to see what audiophiles say about these new Walkmans.

There are already similarly priced and cheaper alternatives, including a $350 option by Sony, and $800-$1500 options by Astell & Kern. Stand-alone music players aren’t extinct as this writer seems to think.

  • It’s technically still there, but it resolves immediately when you lift your finger now.

In my experience: In the PWA it consistently required lifting your finger and waiting for 1-2 seconds before attempting to scroll again. If you didn’t “not touch it” for 1-2 seconds, it would stay frozen indefinitely when trying to scroll up or down. This sometimes felt like an eternity for an otherwise very responsive experience.

In the TestFlight app, that 1-2 seconds is down to maybe .2 seconds or less. It’s nearly imperceptible - enough so that it feels like it’s fixed. But if you do use it in such a way that you encounter a freeze, you just lift your finger and immediately try again. There’s no additional waiting - just lift and continue.

So it feels fixed to me and I rarely freeze in the first place, but maybe the underlying problem still exists.

IOW: It’s as if an invisible overlay blocks your interactions after swiping back to the feed. That invisible overlay is now removed almost instantly instead of after 1-2 seconds. But if you try to scroll too quickly after swiping back, you might catch it while your finger is down. In that case, you can now lift and immediately continue. It’s consistent enough and minor enough that it could be played off as a feature that prevents you from accidentally scrolling after swiping back.

I haven’t personally experienced any bugs that would hold it back from an App Store release, so hopefully you’ll get it to try it for yourself soon.

  • I was just trying to be nice to the dev and fans tbh. I went straight to Apollo when the official app started burning up my phone years ago and never looked back, or at other apps. I had no idea Sync was never on iOS. 🤷🏻‍♂️ But if it ever is, I’d try it.

  • Voyager just started their TestFlight app version a few days ago and it’s really great (on iOS.) It added haptic feedback which is very nice, and fixes the freezing issue. Otherwise it’s identical, I think. I’d guess there will be an android app sometime.

I’m also testing Memmy and using Mlem - both are coming along great, but Voyager app version is the cleanest and my favorite atm.

Looking forward to trying Sync when it comes to iOS. Never tried it for Reddit - only used Apollo.

  • People also don’t always realize you need to flush your hot water tank after water is contaminated. At regular usage rate, anything could linger in there for days/weeks, even if new water coming in is fresh. If the cold water is clear, then run the hot water till it’s cold and clear, and then some more.

Although, the town did give instructions for flushing cold and hot water lines, and the residents say they followed them:

Miller, too, said a gasoline smell lingers in his home even though he followed the directions from the city about how to flush his water line. As instructed, he ran cold water through the faucets, followed by hot, then repeated the process.

The more likely culprit is further down:

“These reports are in concentrated areas and the city is currently executing additional main line flushing at these locations, which are predominantly where main lines dead end, such as in coves and courts,” Crockett said.

Sounds like it’s going to be resolved soon one way or another. Probably not going to be a Flint situation, which is what I first assumed by the headline…
