  • So what you're saying is that under our system, fascists are entitled to run for president?

Trump broke every rule on the book - why can't Joe? The democrat's weird-ass obsession with precedent, civility, and the sanctity of American politics (that were devised by 30 year old white slave owners) has made them entirely toothless and ill equipped to deal with fascism. I'll never understand the liberal position that fascists must, at all costs, be allowed to run in elections. Stomp that shit out.

  • It all comes down to the same basic premise: we aren't going to consume our way out of the climate catastrophe. I don't blame people for thinking this, though. If you've lived your whole life under an economy and social order who's keystone and ultimate guiding force is consumption, it's easy to see consumption as your only recourse. Something something, if all you have is a hammer, everything starts to look like nails. Our only option is to completely dismantle the systems that catalyzed the climate crisis: embracing anti-capitalism, crushing special interests, and ultimately empowering working class people.

  • It's easy to understand the leftist claim that liberals always ultimately bend to fascism when you see comments like this that explain the US's turn to fascism is because of leftists(?).

You comprise one of the two sides who blindly vote according to the principle of "he's better than the other guy". I suspect you'd be fine with more genocides in the decades to come only insofar as they're committed by democrats. Meanwhile, actual leftists will continue to imagine better systems, build mutual aid networks, and arm vulnerable comrades. American electotalism isn't going to stop the backslide into fascism or the ecocidal intent of the US ruling class.

  • No, we don't see "that". You won't be able to find me any science that shows a direct correlation between intelligence and fascistic tendencies. I think you are blurring the line between intelligence and education. Think back to the german liberal universities that, once the nazis started infiltrating, folded faster than superman doing laundry.

Strengthening education as a means to minimize fascism is not at all incompatible with the marxist viewpoint. It meshes extremely well, in fact.

  • Insinuating that an individual's turn to trumpism/fascism is due to lead or stupidity completely disregards the decades of regulatory capture, dismantling of social safety nets, financial strain, alienation, and liberal capitalism that ultimately promotes fascism.

If you don't abandon this mode of thinking quickly, you're going to find yourself more and more confused as more people start turning fascist. The only explanation via your current framework is "well, I guess these millions of people must just be.... dumb". This is the danger of liberal thinking - it doesn't address the cause of fascism or how to kill it. If your framework were correct, we'd see volumes of work that show how lower IQ directly correlates with fascistic tendencies: obviously we know that idea is not only ableist but also incorrect.

The marxist critique actually takes into account the economic systems and structures that lead to fascism.

  • Rather be edgy than let the sophist's slick words draped in patriotism and liberalism distract me from a horrific monstrosity that has left over 30,000 people dead - mostly women and children.

I swear in 10 years, once the backside to fascism has seriously taken root, the libs in this comment section will still be hooting and hollering over these empty words in the State of The Union - all the while doing every mental gymnastic possible such that they don't have to question capitalism. Enjoy the backside.

  • As the next few decades roll by, and the US continues to backslide into fascism, it'll be interesting to see your line of thinking evolve into

"Well, look... John 'blue-tie' Smith isn't the strongest candidate. Sure, he's waging 4 genocides across multiple theaters, but compare him to Chris 'red-tie' Lee who wants to start 7 more genocides, and the answer of who's the better candidate is very clear. Thank God for my liberal pragmatism. Vote blue no matter who!"

The country is ratcheting further and further into fascism, and liberal 'pragmatism' is keeping people from asking real questions about how overarching political systems can be conducive to genocide. It obfuscates the real reasons behind the emergence of fascism.

But sure, keep falling for the good cop bad cop routine - I'm sure after just 4 or 5 or 20 more democratic presidents, you'll finally have the enlightened society you've been aiming for.

  • Why do you think surveillance units cannot be hostile? By that logic, you'd be fine with the Houthis flying surveillance drones over US soil.

At the bare minimum, it's a 5000 pound drone that could do damage if it falls out of the sky. Sure, the chances are minimal, but why should Houthis be expected to bear that risk?
