My TV is a dumb TV (for lack of a better name). It does have a USB port, but it only displays photos and can't play external footage. I keep all of my downloaded media on an external HDD. I did look into the whole XBMC aka Kodi / jellyfin combo stuff for a bit.
Lost music. It was an underground artist who quit in the mid 2010s before archive culture was really a thing. I've had people dm me looking for it before. I keep it offline only out of respect for the author who wants to stay gone because the reason he quit a decade ago was harassment.
at the same level of importance, every time I've gotten a new computer or operating system since 2013 or so, I've backed up every single user folded (pictures, videos, documents, etc) onto an external hard drive. I have a lot of good memories there that I really do not want to lose.
well, for niche communities I moreso meant hobby stuff rather than questions haha. for example, russian is my second language but there isn't really a community here for that. I'm also into anime and like seeing anime collectables, of which the main anime communities are pretty dead (though I try to interact with them) and there really isn't a community for the latter.
Been really into call of duty unexpectedly after about a decade away, so I've been playing warzone with my friends. In my solo time, I've been inching my way through broken reality, it's a really great game with vaporwave/ retro aesthetics.
it's made me learn to figure out a lot of things on my own instead of making Reddit posts asking for help. I do wish some of the more niche communities I followed were more active on here though. but overall it's business as usual, same concept different app. except now my friends call the links I share "weird websites" because voyager can't copy URLs as your host instance.
user customisability. online profiles were awesome until like 2013 where it all became plain black or white backgrounds with a banner. you could have custom backgrounds or even entirely custom CSS in a lot of websites. I really love the theme my instance uses because a lot of Lemmy instance themes are plain and dull too, just default black or white with no creativity, unlike db0 with the crazy outer space and fire and shit. makes it feel more human.
call of duty warzone. I was a professional hater until recently, those steam reviews being mostly negative really put me off from trying it. now me and my friends play it every day.
this might sound like a joke but this is pretty true. my anger issues were also the peak of me being known as a basket case by everyone I knew, i was so openly depressed back then. but once everything resolved, I felt a lot better and to this day even though I can be stoic at times I've not quite felt depressed like I used to severely be. yes I can be sad sometimes but it's nothing like the disdain I felt for years.
I'm honestly surprised so many people are for it. I detest tiktok, but what precedent does it set when we start restricting the freedom to access the open internet just like those so-called adversary countries do. If it gets removed from the app stores and that's it, then yeah whatever I guess. but if we end up like China and post 2022 Russia where we are blocking connection access to a worldwide foreign service entirely only because we don't like not being in control of the data, then we've already lost as the public. Combine this with the potentialities of project 2025 or whatever and then look at that, now we're the exact same as them.
If the government were doing this for anything other than a power move with theatrics, Instagram and Twitter etc would be cracked down hard too.
I have iOS 15.4 and I have a default browser that isn't Safari. This is more in reference to a new popup on first time bootup that asks you to pick a browser. You could pick a default one before this, you just had to go download it first like on a computer.
Damn, even some low-key projects like iVanced were hit. I doubt this spells the end of third party apps but they'll probably go the way of being distributed on various russian download forums or telegram instead.
Finally remembered my login for PokeMMO after 7 years so I've been finally going back and finishing the various regions. Starting the new (er... 1 year ago new) johto update soon!
