I’m gonna get some screenshots together for a post, leaving this comment as a reminder to myself.

But yeah, if this community could have a few less chibi anime waifu wallpapers than UnixPorn does, I’m totally down to support it.

Those are called Zerks. Zerk fittings. My god if I called them nipples at work I’d never live it down.

Conversely, I have sent a steam deck in for repairs twice. The first time the shoulder button broke. They didn’t ask questions and fixed it for free. The second time I broke it, and paid for the repairs. Both times steam support was helpful and easy to deal with. I can’t recommend the steam deck enough, it’s worth every penny.

Fedora works perfectly with secure boot and I keep it enabled when I’m using fedora. It’s worth noting, that if you require any software in the form of a kernel module (for instance, openrazer, a Linux tool for controlling razer devices) it won’t function with secure boot enabled because it isn’t registered at boot. You’d have to reboot to bios, turn off Secure Boot, log in and set your configs, then reboot and turn secure boot back on.

Or you could just leave it off.

A long time ago, republicans needed an easy way to get voters to vote against their own interests and instead vote in the interest of the corporate overclass. Abortion. It’s genius. Make the preachers ultra wealthy by getting them to preach about something the Bible never seemed concerned about. Abortion. They’re murdering babies, you just have to get out and vote.

Eventually that strategy brought diminishing returns. They overturned Roe and the issue doesn’t have the same bite that it once had. They needed a new plan. Wait, I’ve got it. Trans people existing. Trans people bad, and they’re trying to assimilate your children by existing. They’re trans animals now, pooping in litter boxes at school. How long until you have to refer to your children by neopronouns under the threat of incarceration?

Seriously. This is how trump won the election. This issue is the issue they chose and it works. I hear it from my rightoid coworkers all the time. The GOP creates boogeymen to get idiots to the polls and it works, and the democrats have nothing to counter it.

Yeah I don’t know as far as the coating is concerned. I have personally had great luck with Asus products, but even by manufacturer I feel like there’s hits and misses as far as build quality. Wish you luck in your hunt.

There’s SO much more going for thinkpads than just the trackpoint. I would count durability as the highest point on the list, beyond the rubberized coating, the frame, the hinges, the serviceability (even in newer models with part of the RAM soldered) far exceeds most other offerings.

I dont currently own because I have a desktop that meets all of my needs, and my partner has a MacBook that I can use when a laptop is helpful. But if I was planning to buy a laptop, maybe as something to take out of town for work, it would likely be a thinkpad.

I think it’s pretty fucking obvious what their problem is. They don’t want the newfound visibility that trans people have gained over the last few years to present a visible option for their kids and grandkids. They didn’t care about trans people years ago because they were largely in the shadows. Now that the language and culture around trans people is becoming visible to the average American, it has become the perfect shibboleth for the right wing to rally around no different than when the Christian right pulled abortion out of thin air as a rallying point to drive right wing voters. Don’t want your daughter to embarrass the fuck out of you at social functions when they introduce themselves as Xe/Xer/Xim? Vote Republican. That’s the point of the manufactured outrage. A way to drive funding and votes for fascism. And it worked. Trans visibility is the golden egg dropped in trumps lap that put him back in office.

This isn’t just mindless theorizing. I work with these right wing jackasses. It’s all they talk about.

It has a banner stating that the website is under construction to comply with orange man orders, but everything that matters is unchanged, most importantly the “build a kit” guidelines.

I highly recommend people look at the kit guidelines and consider it a bare minimum for basic preparedness, even in times where our leadership isn’t completely off the rails.

I’ve always been of the understanding that people who do the whole “no sex until “x” event or time span” thing seem to consider sex to be a transactional performance, as opposed to raw form of human connection. They expect commitment to come before that connection, and use their withholding as a form of manipulation. To which my reply was always “Next”

The current US administration and its demagogues and lackeys have been doing all sorts of things they shouldn’t be able to do in a normal society. You’d be amazed at how quickly they’d be able to shut down a form of mass media they can’t control.

It’s fine if you don’t like my mentality. I’m highly selective about who I let into to my day to day life in meatspace. I like small gatherings, and keep a high bar for who I want to associate with. I don’t see why I shouldn’t apply the same principle to my internet life.

Do you want them here? I don’t. I don’t tell a soul about lemmy, because this is place for me to get away from them. A place for mostly rational discussion, populated by people free thinking enough to seek an alternative. If the masses descended on Lemmy, they’d ruin it like they ruin everything else. They’d draw the attention that would lead to it being litigated, regulated, purchased, corporatized etc. Let them stay on Facebook and Reddit.

Just decided based on this post to check it out as I used to use Mlem back when I first joined, then used voyager for the last year or so. It’s beautiful and smooth and I think I’m keeping it.

I’ve been all over the gamut of distros, arch based, Ubuntu based, you name it, and Fedora is it. It’s more bleeding edge than Ubuntu based distributions like Mint and Pop_OS, but not as high maintenance as Arch based distributions. When a Linux noob starts getting Pacman notifications about unmerged pacnew files, they’re going to get turned off pretty quick.

Fedora is rock solid, clean, smooth, and generally free of issues for me for about two years now.
