  • That clears it up a little. Thanks for explaining what you meant by centrist being right wing.

  • Did you just criticize a fact checking organization by calling it centrist? Are you looking for a more left or right biased fact checker?

  • I must be confused.

Here is my view of the conversation. Let me know where I went wrong.

People saying MBFC is biased. Me saying that that's BS if talking about specific facts checks. Me saying they also offer a bias check for news sources. But that's not a fact check. You reply saying that they have repeatedly gotten claims by the Guardian UK wrong. Me saying that they don't fact check whole articles so your statement is inconsistent with the very nature of the type of fact checking they do. You come back saying you are talking about the bias check for the Guardian. Except that's not what you said in your first comment, is it? You specifically said "failed fact checks of the Guardian UK" which isn't about their overall rating but about specific facts checks. Their fact checking and their media bias checks are two separate functions.

So when you tell me I'm being obtuse it looks to me like either you didn't realize that you complained about one thing while confusing it with another or are trying to gaslight me.

    Where did I go wrong?

  • See, this is what I'm talking about. They don't fact check articles by specific publishers. They fact check a claim. "Is this statement true", "did X Y", etc. they don't do "is this this article by the guardian true." That's a whole separate thing not done by them.

They offer a separate service where they rate the general trustworthiness and bias of a publication but that's not the same as doing a specific article, is it?

Your comment makes me wonder if you might be confusing them with someone else or are intentionally saying something about them that isn't accurate. Because your comment is incompatible with what they actually do.

  • She was dating my ex girlfriend. They split. My ex recommended she ask me out because she thought we might be a good fit. It's been 14 years.

Having a previous significant partner that I split with on good terms has always been a great strategy for getting a new partner.

  • This is relevant to my interests. Simultaneous infections can be a great opportunity for dangerous hybrids. I have over 30 chickens, ducks and geese. Any time I see a wild bird in the yard get a little nervous because H5N1 is serious. It's nearly 100% fatal for birds. And 50% for humans.

  • A whole lot of people here don't read MBFC each day and it shows. They tend to take a single and testable claim and make a decision. It's really easy to see if the claim is true or false if the claim is specific. They don't have a habit of taking a big claim and ruling it false because of one small detail like Snopes does.

  • I'm here to remind you of the absence of Heathcliff from Heathcliff comics. Absurdist anti-joke comics with an extra helping of both.

  • I am the only nerd across multiple generations. My nephew is a Hikikomori and not traveling to see me. I'd rather have a real system that connects to the network and fills the need for accurate weather in my town.

  • I know any in my case. I'm in a black hole of info. The nearest weather station is over 30 miles away and it's not remotely accurate for my location because of terrain changes between here and there. There isn't even a weather station in my overly large and oddly shaped county.

We went so far as to contact the people in charge of weather stations to see if we could set one up in our yard and while there was some initial excitement from them they eventually ghosted us.

  • That's definitely a change from companies just leaving passwords around for anyone to find.

  • And getting killed. First rule of engagement is to survive.

  • Running is a very good strategy. In non-stand your ground states if you have the opportunity to run you have a legal obligation to. It means you aren't in immediate danger. In a stand your ground state you have the option to run. But if the person shooting isn't visible then sneaking around with a gun trying to find them is how a good-guy with a gun ends up dead like John Hurley.

Part of being a responsible gun owner is knowing when to run.

  • A complete lack of organization and an air conditioner that hasn't worked in three years. It's frequently been 87 to 89 in my house for over a month now. It kills motivation to move. But I did just go outside and remove all the 4 foot tall grass from my brick patio. So I have that going for me. Which is nice.

I need to draw monsters that do yardwork. They work outside. Elves make shoes inside. Goblins prune and edge.

  • You're one of those people that believes you shouldn't believe someone when they tell you who they are.

    Can I borrow $50?

  • Doesn't work. I have several. And I have a concealed carry. A conservative knowing these things has never been scared. They use it as an excuse to pull out theirs because they think like children and have to show and tell. Even if it's in a public place, like the damn corner of a courthouse. Which is not the kind of place a responsible adult should ever reveal a weapon.

  • There are a few things I wrote there that I want to archive but no idea when they were. I'm thinking I build a crawler to scrape the whole thing and then load it into a LLM to help me find the bits I'm looking for. Then I can delete the whole thing and stop letting Russia have my stuff
