  • The horrors of this invasion should be taught in school history. There's a danger that we look at the horrors of the past, which are also taught in our history, and think "well, I don't think this would happen in this day and age". We can't afford to stay complacent.

  • I got tired of having to learn new things. The latest was a reverse proxy that I didn't want to configure and maintain. I decided that life is short and just use samba to serve media as files. One lighttpd server for my favourite movies so I can watch them from anywhere. The rest I moved to free online services or apps that sync across mobile and desktop.

  • Well, we can't trust that corruption would be low enough that this wouldn't be exploited for other reasons. Child trafficking and exploitation is off the charts. If this did actually help those kids I'd consider supporting it. But I do remember when Apple announced that they would do this that some groups that seemed reputable claimed that it wouldn't actually help. I don't know what to think of it.

  • The last few months do not paint the US as the peacemakers here. It's hard to tell what motivation they have here beyond saving face before election time.

  • Even if they do “confirm”, I’d find it hard to believe. I hope, though.

  • “The ceasefire would evolve into a permanent end to hostilities”

When have the Israelis ever resisted their urge for hostility. Palestinians can’t even play a game of chess outside without a petty IOF soldier knocking the board to the ground. They constantly agitate.

I would love to see a ceasefire, but is it realistic to expect it from Israel?

  • All talk about websites in the comments, but what about using just an email client and maybe ssh, rsync etc.

  • Seeming reasonable in the context of the madness of constant growth is still not reasonable. I get what you mean, but we need to demand better of the ultra powerful if we want to see better in our lifetime.

  • When updates gradually make those devices rage-inducingly slow, it’s inevitable that people will dispose of them. It really is a stretch to even say that they are “supporting” them.

Please don’t absolve mega corporations of their responsibility here.

  • 5 years is pretty stingy, and more importantly quite deadly for the environment.

  • I don’t use much lately because I’m usually on mobile and I don’t like using IRC with an intermittent connection.

But libera.chat is the one I log on to when I do. I would be curious about servers and channels that offer something different: most are about technology.

  • Ecosia. I don’t like their links to Microsoft but I think the environment is more important than anything these days.

  • One timing I don’t see mentioned here is to learn what you can about ADHD and executive dysfunction. The more you know “this is the ADHD” the less you need to blame yourself. If you don’t understand the condition as fully as possible then we blame ourselves by default.

  • ‘"We hope the world hears us and knows that the people of Israel are not the government of Israel," said one protester.‘

I really wanted to believe that, but they have the same PRV type of voting system as Ireland so that’s hard to believe. It’s not like UK/US where the votes are counted in a more primitive way.

  • I thought there would be a hyphen between “eye” and “roll”, no?

  • Colonialism is a structure, not a historical event. So it still needs to be dealt with. Just because you’re not to blame doesn’t mean you’re not the only one who can do the right thing as voting citizens. Nations that colonise absorbed wealth of other nations and that advantage can still be seen today in infrastructure that was built, wealth amassed. Museums today hold stolen artefacts and even bodies from lands they colonised.

Please don’t use ancestors as a smokescreen for what is happening right in front of our eyes.
