  • I love being a UU and am extremely benefitted by having my congregation & a personal connection with God, after +20 years of being a hardline atheist. I needed my own space & affordance to explore, redefine terms, and do my own spiritual learning.

One weird outcome for me was reading the Bible on my own. I don’t consider myself a Christian (ex-Catholic / ex-Atheist), but I was getting frustrated with MAGA’s association with Christ while being so misaligned with the teachings. I know enough now to quote my favorite passages, because if I ever get in a pinch in this country, I’m going to quote the Bible.

Every MAGA person needs to read Matthew 25:32 several times, along with James 1:19 & James 2:25, and especially John 13:34. You get to heaven by helping the poor, helping the foreigner, helping those in prison, not by just claiming you follow Christ. If your actions don’t come from love, then they don’t follow Christ. It’s mind blowing to me that this regime is aligned with Christianity in public opinion.

  • Respectfully, UU is very different than this, in my personal experience. It’s precisely because UU doesn’t have strong dogmatic ties that I like it. The 7 principles are pretty standard moral positions. Sacred texts inform practice but do not dictate it either.

The pattern is poorer & richer people give more. The poorer people understand hardship & help one another. The richer people have more to give (and financial incentives to do so, such as tax write-offs).

The middle class gives the least, likely because they feel the most pinched on maintaining a quality of life that’s often becoming more expensive.

The poor, In my opinion, have the MOST empathy. They give a lot as a percentage of income & have the most to lose.

Your intuition is pretty much the opposite of the statistics.

  • Out of the games I’ve been fortunate to work on, 1/7 require internet, and the 1 was my first industry job as QA. Everything else has been mobile, online required. 5/7 are no longer playable / removed from the internet.

It makes me sad because my kids will never play a bunch of things I made. I can’t revisit them nostalgically. If I had made something in the 90s, it would be preserved still.

I played the cards dealt to me to follow a dream and make a living, but I wish the industry wasn’t like this. The money has always been a role, but nowadays, it’s distorted so badly.

  • His “Wellness” farms in the distant future:

    • Eroded safety nets
    • Vilify mental health
    • Revert to misguided mental health past, asylums as the solution
    • Send people there for believing “alternative liberal fictions” (a.k.a. basic facts)
    • ???
    • All that’s left is hope
  • I am not a fan of her or the company she keeps.

Having said that, people keep misunderstanding that photo. I thought the same thing, “Completely obvious it’s photoshopped.” But that’s been a miscommunication. Trump thinks it’s actually on his knuckles. Someone was trying to decode the symbols (Marijuana Leaf = M, Smile = S, Cross = 1, I don’t remember the 3).

I don’t want these people to have any inch. I think that man is innocent and should return. But I can see what argument they were trying to make, in all fairness to generally incompetent people.

  • Our parents really screwed this country up:

    • Worse off financially
    • Lonelier
    • Worse mental health
    • Worse social safety net
    • Less affordable homes
    • Less affordable health care
    • Less affordable college
    • Climate is royally screwed

It feels like an older sibling who took your toy and broke it rather than parents as stewards who gave a shit about the society they leave the next group. We were taught respect, share, work with others, and then it turns out all the adults are just doing whatever selfish thing lets them get ahead. All the BS propaganda about communism taken to its extreme was true of neoliberal policy taken to its extreme. Now we slip into textbook capital Fascism and defunct cronyism.

  • After reading the article, it sounds like the start of a new resource in an idle game. “You now make 89 nuclei of gold every 1 hour. It lasts 1 pico second.” It’ll take a few more prestige loops until we can do full jewelry.

  • Imagine life was a game. You lived for 2025 years. You worked 260 days / year. You made the median US salary.

You would need to relive that process 3,145 times to match an Oligarch.

That amount of wealth is unethical while humanity suffers. No one can really fathom “1b dollars.”

  • Put your steam deck in offline mode, problem solved for anything that doesn’t need to ping a server. That’s what I do with my kids.

I don’t disagree on digital rights and all that, but I am able to game because of my Steam Deck.
