  • Wasn't expecting to see The Ryback here today.

  • I do remember a recent thing where a woman skater went full-ass TERF after having placed lower than a trans woman in a competition and making the right wing noise cycle, conveniently leaving out that they placed something like fifth and sixth behind a child. Google is being extremely unhelpful right now in finding it, though, instead showing me article after article about a separate story where a trans woman won a skating competition, which frame it in the most horrible way possible by making repeated reference to the fact that a 13 year old got second place. Lots of mentions of her "beating a 13 year old" and not being apologetic about it.

  • You know, with Steamboat Willie being public domain now, I'm kinda disappointed that site doesn't actually exist.

The old school internet would have been all over that shit.

  • The heavy cream is just for the whipped cream topping. It still uses whole milk for the soak.

  • I often find this is the biggest obstacle with moving people to FOSS solutions. People want an alternative to Photoshop, so you show them Gimp, and they immediately get frustrated because they try to apply the logic and design philosophies of Photoshop to Gimp. People want an alternative to Windows, so you show them Linux, and they immediately get frustrated because they try to apply the logic and design philosophies of Windows to Linux. And then when it doesn't work the same way, then obviously that is a deficiency of the alternative, and not simply them having to learn a new way of doing things.

  • Thanks for the tip. I'll keep that in mind when I make that joke again (and I'm sure I will).

  • Tres leches is whole milk, condensed milk, and evaporated milk. Dulce de leche isn't standard for it. But I'm sure it makes a great addition.

  • But they were all of them deceived, por un otra leche was made.

  • I'm not sure, but his strips are really good.

His Bluesky account is really fun too. Talks a lot about some of the deep lore of Popeye (like stuff that hasn't been seen since the Thimble Theater days) and how that informs his strips.

  • No, they're not Catholics.

  • They basically uphold him as a symbol of rebellion against an unjust, totalitarian authority.

  • Something Positive is still around, and still pretty great. Dude who draws that also does the Popeye newspaper strip.

  • Apparently Archie's creator was friends with a dude who owned a Christian comic book publisher, and gave them a sweetheart licensing deal. Definitely weird seeing them mixed in with the others

  • You mean it's not?

  • I didn't realize that the Episcopalians were affiliated with the Anglicans. TIL.

  • I love Turkish Delight. Maybe it's genetic? Like, maybe it activates something in Mediterranean people?

  • Yeah, I could see going into that fight scene super high and losing your fucking mind.

Like, this is my life now. This fight scene will not end, ever. Just Roddy Piper and Keith David punching each other, forever.

  • Afraid not. This showed up in my Facebook feed, of all places. I remembered the other Claire's post that was over here and figured it'd be cool to bring it over and keep the theme going.
