Globalization. Exploiting developing countries, export jobs and environmental damage, hiding profits. Not so long ago corporations had to be careful not to shit where they eat. Now they can shit in Asia and eat comfortably in USA/Europe. Everyone lost on that.
You don't know what effort is needed to update an app for Vision Pro. For most apps it's probably just marking a checkbox in the XCode and releasing an update. What special features will you add to PCalc? It will just float in front of you like every other app. Do you need to write any special code to make it work on Vision Pro?
It’s not just Netflix, Spotify, and YouTube that don’t have apps for Apple’s Vision Pro at launch.(...) As of this weekend, the AR/VR device’s App Store has just 150+ apps that were updated for the Vision Pro explicitly
You can watch Netflix on the Vision Pro in a browser but they didn't create a specific app for it like for example for iOS. 150 other apps were updated to run on the device. We're not talking about apps that run only on Vision Pro, just apps that have specific Vision Pro version. It's like if when Apple released the iPad only 150 apps were tested, maybe slightly adapted and marked in AppStore as iPad compatible.
150 is nothing. There are millions of apps in the AppStore, all (if not all, most) of them could be updated to run on the VisionPro and developers of only 150 bothered to do it. That's terrible result.
I generally don't care about going to the office, it's not a problem, but what my company did was to hire 3x as many people as before the pandemic and simply move to hot desk system instead of expanding the office. So now we have more people but less desks and less parking spots. We have to use some app to make reservations and it's just a constant struggle to book a desk so that I can sit next to guy I don't know talking on a video call all day. What's the fucking point?
This is what's nonsensical. "If Bill pays more taxes he might be only #10 richest man on the planet. Surely he can't do that." Yeah, it would be sooooo tragic if he would have only half of the money Elon Musk has.
As I said, at this point he's no longer building his wealth, his just hoarding money. I have no idea why you keep insisting that his wealth relative to other billionaires is so important. He's no longer competing with them for resources. He has millions times more than he can use in the rest of his life.
You're making points about general economics and government financing while the comment was about Bill Gates specifically. Of course we're not going to say "everyone should pay more taxes if they want but taxes will stay as low as possible". But Bill is 70 years old and worth $100B. He no longer competes with anyone for resources or companies, he's no longer working to build his wealth and improve his quality of life. He's just hoarding wealth that he uses to influence policy on a scale that should be restricted to elected officials. If he really thinks the government needs more money and can do with less he can stop hiding taxes in charities.
He does not want to give up his relative position.
What does that even mean? He can pay more taxes but only if he still gets to be #4 richest man on the planet? How about stopping the idiotic race to be "the richest person the universe" instead? You know that being #1 or #5000 doesn't really change how insanely comfortable your life is. The entire race and just pure vanity.
He wants folks at his position to pay their share.
Don't be silly. He doesn't want anyone to pay more. It's just PR.
So? You know that Bill can't really spend all his money so the extra wealth is used to influence policy on national and global scale. Charity is a perfect tool for that and Bill used his to influence American education policy for decades. The "it's not my money, I don't control it" is just PR and tax avoidance scheme.
