I told my lib colleague about how many software creators provide their stuff and its source code for free and he could barely get why; I also told him historically many nations just left their research and findings available publicly for people to learn from and he can't grasp why that was either.

He does truly believe the profit motive is the only (best?) way to advance science.

Isn't the cost of living in Japan like extremely high, and work basically breaks your back for no overtime?

If I was to take Israelis seriously I would end up concluding that they're generally very stupid, because if they'd granted Palestinians citizenship and just lived alongside them like modern day South Africa has become, all their problems disappear overnight; of course in reality it's an extremely racist settler colonial nation and they have no desire to live alongside the people of the land they've invaded. I also daresay the Arab governments that are working with them are also very shortsighted; if they'd studied American history they would've seen that even in the US there were native American settlements who colluded with the settlers to bring down other native American (towns?), and even tried dressing like the settlers and converting to Christianity, only for the settlers to decide they wanted the land the 'Americanized' native Americans were living on and then killed them too (who now didn't have the neighboring native Americans to help them.....cause they helped massacre them). The map of greater Israel literally includes a large chunk of Saudi Arabia, one of their more important/strongest allies in the region.

If they know they're going to end the war diplomatically, why are they delaying? Extremely cruel to the people fighting today who know their deaths are meaningless, that they're only dying cause it's still early.

The full bill for Vietnam started coming 20 years after the fact as all those veterans got older and started heavily using the benefits they were promised. From the start of the War on Terror, we're about at that same point right now. So unless the plan is to rug pull those benefits from people who really need them, then there's going to be a huge bill coming that no amount of efficiency trimming can ignore.
