  • I don't know if he can leverage it, as iirc I read that per the terms of this merger the major shareholders can't divest until 6 months after closing. But he's only got until Monday to pay and he now has to give the court advance notice about any efforts he's making to get the bond. So he's running out of time.

  • Yeah the Medicaid asset limits are rather low, though they do exclude a primary residence and one vehicle in the calculation. They also do an assessment going back 5 years to ensure you haven't given away money/assets or sold assets at below market value.

  • They're not talking about Biden physically hugging Netanyahu himself, but his diplomatic strategy with respect to Israel. Basically pledging unwavering support so that Israel can be talked down and restrained from doing all that it might otherwise do.

Except it's unclear exactly how it's worked here, perhaps apart from preventing some potentially huge escalation in the North against Hezbollah and Lebanon.

  • IIRC some of the radical extremely right wing Israeli figures have been suggesting that the last-ditch Samson option would be to nuke basically anyone they can in retaliation for the destruction of Israel.

In 2003, a military historian, Martin van Creveld, thought that the Second Intifada then in progress threatened Israel's existence. Van Creveld was quoted in David Hirst's The Gun and the Olive Branch (2003) as saying:

We possess several hundred atomic warheads and rockets and can launch them at targets in all directions, perhaps even at Rome. Most European capitals are targets for our air force. Let me quote General Moshe Dayan: 'Israel must be like a mad dog, too dangerous to bother.' I consider it all hopeless at this point. We shall have to try to prevent things from coming to that, if at all possible. Our armed forces, however, are not the thirtieth strongest in the world, but rather the second or third. We have the capability to take the world down with us. And I can assure you that that will happen before Israel goes under.
