  • The need for a solution regarding one angle of a problem does not invalidate the need for a solution regarding another.

  • Yeah, I saw that after seeing the other comments. I just didn't refresh the page to see your comment until after I typed up my edit. Lol, sorry.

No requirement there. Just recommendations, and potential at that.

who tf travels on vacation when they're so close to labor?

    People with poor decision-making skills.

  • No it's not. A lot of new phones are still wired in terms of having to charge it. The wireless suck, unless of course they've improved a lot in the last 5 years.

I'd rather plug a cable into my phone than deal with having to position just right to a millionth of a millimeter precision just to get a shitty 6 hour charge time. Lol.

  • The fuck is "Ethernet over WiFi". Isn't ethernet by definition wired? If it's x over WiFi, isn't that just WiFi with extra steps?

Edit: I see from other comments they mean "preferable compared to", not "used atop of".

  • Is it a monitor provided by your workplace? If not, well, it's not that hard to find a monitor without a built-in camera. I found one easily enough for my gaming desktop... Unless the monitor market has dramatically changed since 2019-ish...

  • Fucking THANK YOU.

A very good friend of mine doesn't use any password manager. I've often in the past told them why don't they? They argue that then all their passwords would be gone if they forget that one master password. Okay, I say, how the fuck is having to remember 1 password harder than having to remember 20 passwords?

  • Likewise, as the old rule goes, if you don't have a secondary backup, then you don't have a backup.

  • I feel the same way about webcams. I'm paranoid about them too, but you know what's an easy solution? Buy a desktop monitor without one and then buy a USB webcam.

If you're on a laptop, then for the camera just tape a piece of paper over it. As for the internal mic, you might be fucked lol cause I got nothing.

  • I'm still on Windows 10, mainly for gaming. I probably won't switch (to PopOS or Mint) until Win10 EOL happens, primarily for gaming-related reasons.

I have an Nvidia card and can't afford to get an AMD, and most of my games are not on Steam (I really like GOG), so I'm hoping by that point Nvidia compatibility will have improved enough compared to last time I tried switching.

I mean FFS I went to PopOS like a year ago and couldn't even get Dragon Age: Origins to run, even through Lutris. It made me sad. :(

  • You, my friend, are a truly unsung hero. ❤️

Also, damn, that's an ugly logo...

  • Before the switching, you may want to try Linux on Windows using WSL2 or VirtualBox, etc.

Thanks for the tip! I think I'll try VirtualBox!

Also, Mint and other distros provide bootable image, so you can try it without installing Mint on your machine.

You're talking about booting from a disk or USB drive, right? See, I've tried those (well, the USB drive anyway), but AFAICT there didn't seem to be a way to have it remember stuff between boots? Maybe I missed something...
