  • so that people know where Politico stands in terms of being a trustworthy source

I just assume all media actually want a Trump victory, because they get money writing articles and the money was good his first term. If Trump is good at anything, it's making headlines.

  • The fact you even look at politics puts you in like, the top 20% of the US population.

I would wager the majority of people that do vote, just look for an R or D next to a name and check the box for their team and move on.

There were about 160 million people who voted in 2020, an unprecedented amount of engagement from the voting populace, and still not half of Americans voting.

People don't really care. Do they have a job? Are their basic needs met? If yes, vote incumbent, if no, vote competition. I expect to see tweets in November asking where Biden went and who is Kamala.

  • Elon keeps picking companies that give big government grants. Space, electric vehicles, medical, infrastructure. Twitter is like the only company I don't see getting direct government handouts.

He made his money from duping the people who give out our tax dollars.

  • To add on to everyone else mentioning it, another benefit to password managers is that they auto filter themselves to the URL. So if you have a password saved for macys.com and get phished to macys-passwordreovery.com, the password manager won't know the URL and offer no filtering. Adding the extra step of having to manually find your password entry should be a flag itself that something might be wrong.

  • I'm all for the camera bump. I can lay my phone on my desk and it's slightly tilted towards me so I can read notifications without having to move my head directly above it.

Also, while holding the phone, i can use a finger under the bump for stability and to keep it from sliding down. I don't use a case, and all these glass backed phones can be a bit slick.

All praise the camera bump overlords! [T]/

  • Amazon does probably do this, but burning down a retail store wouldn't hurt their competition.

Tinfoil hat time, the equity firm that bought toys r us, bain capital, somehow got people to agree that they could use the equity of toys r us as collateral, then heavily leveraged themselves to buy out a bunch of companies that competed with toys r us and therefore Amazon, and after buying out all these companies, collapsed in on themselves dragging all of them down with it.

Amazon already handled a lot of toys r us's logistics at the time, so it was a nice boon for them to already have the infrastructure in place to support that market when suddenly toys r us starts making highly risky leveraging decisions.

  • We have waiting times too, the more elective it is the longer it is.

For my yearly checkup, the first time I went, their first availability was 3 months later. It's the same time every year now because I book next years appointment at each visit.

I thought I needed a CPAP, I had to wait a week to get the home sleep study equipment and then two more weeks to meet with the doctor. I had a copay of $50 with that doctor but had to buy the CPAP for about $800

I scheduled a vasectomy and it took 3 months for the consult and another 6 for the procedure and it cost $750 out of pocket.

I pay $350/no for my insurance plan which has now has no copays and no coinsurance until I reach my yearly deductible of $3500 (which means I pay 100% of all medical costs before my insurance does anything) and my employer covers about $300/mo. So $7800/yr in total to basically just have protection in case a major accident happens.

  • The government wants more data. It feels like it's a common unspoken rule that tipped employees don't claim cash tips.

So it seems like "hey, since you lie to us to keep your cash tips and it's optically bad and a waste of IRS resources to even pursue you, just tell us how much you actually made for data collection reasons and we'll ignore it"

  • From my time on Reddit years ago this question came up.

Some cashier's said they reciprocate the exchange back to the customer. If the customer puts cash on the counter for them to pick up, they'll put the change on the counter in return.

There also was probably some new training from covid where you didn't want to touch people directly, so those training materials probably still exist

  • People listen to other people's opinions. You don't care about joe rogans opinion, so his endorsement means nothing. Other people do listen to him and will take his endorsement into consideration. "I agree with what Rogan says alot, he's probably more well informed than me, so if he says someone is worth the vote, well then I don't have to think about it myself and can trust him"

It's newsworthy when a public figure throws their endorsement around, you just don't care about the news

  • The significance is that he doesn't control how his pension is funded. It's not like he has a vested interest in one company succeeding by having a bunch of stock there, and he's been in politics since the aughts. It's refreshing when compared to other congressmen

  • My guess is no one is willing to take on the liability. Any new system that introduces bugs or introduces attack vectors from hackers don't want to be responsible for any lost money and I'm sure banks/insurance don't want to take on the risk either.

Magnetic tape and clearing houses for the indefinite future!

  • The mast majority of legal precedings end with a plea deal.

"Plea guilty to this misdemeanor with a fine and walk out of jail today, or wait in jail for 3 months and fight an uphill court case where people will blindly trust the police and we can fabricate any narrative we want"

"Oh you want to fight and post bail? Okay well for three months we require biweekly drug screenings you pay for, you have a curfew, and if the police can come up with some other bs charge while you're out, we get to tack on bail jumping"

It's not hard to see why people will admit to being guilty while innocent when pleading guilty won't result in jail time

  • Now I may be wrong, but the rulings on sodomy or marital rape weren't rulings that overturned past supreme Court rulings. And a future supreme Court shouldn't be able to overturn citizens united. Congress would need to pass a law to overturn citizens united.

It's like roe v wade. I'm pretty sure the roe ruling wasn't specifically about abortion, it was about the people's right to get an abortion because they have a right to privacy versus the government's interest.

How can one supreme Court roster determine roe was a violation of the 14th amendment and another roster rule it wasn't? That just incentives a political supreme Court. Roe shouldn't have been overturned, Congress should have had the burden of modifying the 14th amendment so that roe could be struck down.

I bet the justices are communicating with interested parties to let them know which rulings they now have the majority to overturn. Like a "hey bud, you should challenge the Chevron ruling now that we have a majority, and when it gets here, we'll get rid of that one too"
