  • That's a fair point. I should've gone with the "packs" wording EA used, I guess.

  • It's all good, I didn't take your reply as a negative. It would be awesome if we could play anything with zero issues but we can't always be this lucky I'm afraid (though I'm all for heckling big corps about DRM).

  • Here's what EA has to say about this.

    The Sims:

    • The Sims Livin’ Large
    • The Sims House Party
    • The Sims Hot Date
    • The Sims Vacation
    • The Sims Unleashed
    • The Sims Superstar
    • The Sims Makin’ Magic

    The Sims 2:

    • The Sims 2: University
    • The Sims 2: Nightlife
    • The Sims 2: Open for Business
    • The Sims 2: Pets
    • The Sims 2: Bon Voyage
    • The Sims 2: Seasons
    • The Sims 2: FreeTime
    • The Sims 2: Apartment Life
    • The Sims 2: Holiday Party Pack
    • The Sims 2: Family Fun Stuff
    • The Sims 2: Glamour Life Stuff
    • The Sims 2: Happy Holiday Stuff
    • The Sims 2: Celebration! Stuff
    • The Sims 2: H&M Fashion Stuff
    • The Sims 2: Teen Style Stuff
    • The Sims 2: Kitchen & Bath Interior Design Stuff
    • The Sims 2: Mansion & Garden Stuff
  • Both games did get some compatibility fixes but for the most part yeah.

  • I wasn't trying to imply anything else to be clear, just wanted to mention that their app on its own doesn't mean it won't work. I completely agree otherwise.

  • Good to know, so these might be playable as well.

  • EA App does work through Wine so that itself isn't a death sentence. Dunno about it mixed with Denuvo though.

  • I feel like the amount of actual trolls and bad-faith posters made many people hyper vigilant about anything that looks like a potential bait. The general polarization also causes people to react more rashly rather than approaching something in good faith and responding in polite and constructive manner.

That's not to say everyone is irrational and wrong about how they react but it really does seem like some would rather yell at any sign of opposition or doubt instead of talking it out. It's an unfortunate result of the times we live in, to some extent.

  • I'm still staying with the last week's list for the most part.

I'm continuing my low combat Daggerfall playthrough "lifethrough". I'm just traveling around and focus on doing everyday tasks for people. It's nice.

Time management in The Sims is slowly getting easier - it's still a bit of a pain but I'm improving. I'm thinking about reinstalling TS2 to compare whether it's just me or if these parts of the game were improved there (I genuinely don't remember as it's been a while since I played the game).

I'm mostly fine with Medabots: Kabuto combat system now as it can be worked around to some extent. More surprisingly however I'm not as annoyed with random encounters in this game as I usually would be, even though games like Pokemon or Final Fantasy tend to have shorter fights overall. Don't know what's the reason for this change but I'll take it - I'd have a difficult time trying to finish it otherwise.

Last but not least, I've been playing a few games of Counter-Strike 2 here and there. I don't expect to stick with it for long but it was interesting to jump back after few years of not touching the game (the last time I did CS2 wasn't even out). I'm positively surprised I'm not complete trash despite my break though it's not like I had any expectations to begin with. No way I can compete with peeps playing it nonstop for years.

Edit: welp, I tried to run CS:GO to check out whether some of my hangups with 2 are new or existed back then but the game won't even launch. Thanks for the legacy branch Valve.

  • I'm still on a legacy plan (which still feels like a really good deal despite some small concessions compared to the new plans) but yeah, even with the new prices it's definitely worth it.

Also, while not strictly email focused but they have a blog with articles about various privacy related topics and news - it's a pretty neat source of info, especially for those less knowledgeable about this stuff.

  • If you only care about email (and calendar, I guess) Tuta is a pretty good choice. I've been using it for years and had only one problem very early on. Additional aliases are only available with the paid plan (€3 a month) however, same as Proton I believe.

  • I just started playing the original game two weeks ago or so and time management is pretty much my main complaint right now. It feels a little too close to (or even more punishing than) real life, where there's barely any time to keep up with my character's needs after coming back from work.
It can be done though - I'm slowly getting used to how things work again and my sim has been leaving in a slightly better mood then before. Just need to get into a proper Sims mindset, I guess.

  • While I did like what I played so far I just can't be bothered to start from scratch right now. I'll get back to it eventually but the backlog beckons and there's A LOT of titles waiting for their turn.

  • Still playing Daggerfall and The Sims.
With Daggerfall it's more of a research project rather than a playthrough at the moment, will probably go back to playing soon. As for The Sims... were days in the first game always this short? It really feels like there's barely any time left after coming back from work and taking care of basic needs. Man, if I wanted more of that I would just focus on my own life.

Besides these two I was thinking about going back to Hollow Knight but then I found out I didn't backup my saves before reinstalling the OS on my desktop. I was half way through the game. I decided to play Medabots: Kabuto for GBA instead.

I played this game a bit before - don't remember when exactly or for how long though. I also forgot pretty much anything about it besides the Medabot customization system (it's neat). I'm still not sure whether I like the combat (not being able to select exactly who and where you attack can be a pain) but I got a hang of it and have enough fun to keep playing. It's also super easy to cheese, at least early on.
Other than that game is pretty dope. Story is simple but fun, music and visuals are great and the already mentioned unit customization add a lot of choice to combat (especially if you're willing to avoid minmaxing). I honestly didn't expect to have this much fun with the game.

  • That's my stance as well. Having to switch everything every time something goes wrong is too much of a pain.

  • I've been using Tuta since 2016, on paid plan since 2019.

Outside a single longer outage early on I had nothing but good experience with their service. Granted, I only care about email and calendar (the only two products they have at the moment) but both work without any issues.

  • Good old backwards compatibility. The only GBA cart I ever bought was due to my original NDS, still have it in fact.
    Where these two your favorites?

  • Yeah, Tetris still got it. The DX version was my most played game on the Steam Deck for a few months, despite hundreds of other games waiting the backlog. Kid made a great choice.
