Some lemmy communities enforces its own particular language. In this case, that "hacker news" community enforces display of posts for the users who have selected english as a language in the profile section.
you can also do multi select languages in lemmy.

I still rely on reddit for technical related subreddits. Now lemmy has very few technical contributors or either the community is very new with only few posts.
