Yeah, at least c/antiquememesroadshow uses a new concept with reliving meme nostalgia, and refugees of r/prequelmemes, r/sequelmemes and whatever the OT meme sub is have united into one community here- as have the state-themed subreddits for Washington, Oregon and Idaho with c/pnw.
There are some with very specific purposes/nationalities (like lemmynsfw, lemmy.ca, and one Portuguese-only one for people from Portugal) that somewhat resemble the porn subs and the country-themed subreddits like r/canada and r/suddenlycaralho respectively.
Yeah, it’s not sustainable to just flock to one instance to the point of there being no real competition. Lemmy.world now hosts nearly 3 times as many user accounts as lemmy.ml- the second-largest instance and a much older one too, and has gotten big way too fast.
Yes, it’s great. I’d also recommend Memmy since it shows downvotes and upvotes separately instead of net score (which lemmy does, idk about the other reddit-like federated sites) to discourage circlejerking
If you post it they will come. (But you’ll have to guess my profile, it existed prior to my discovery of lemmy so I didn’t register using my lemmy.world account)
They tend to portray everything new, different and/or popular with geeks as bad or complicated, I see this as a rite of passage for the fediverse. Remember when they were shitting on computer gaming in the early days of the hobby because of who it was initially popular among?
Same, that often keeps me from finishing open world games
