  • It may not rise to the level of proof, but it is a memorable and easily understood demonstration of something already proven by car safety researchers, as mentioned in the article.

Why shouldn't they precut the wall into cartoony shapes? It adds entertainment and doesn't compromise the demonstration.

  • If I may abuse a metaphor, the money they are getting now is the bird in the hand, and the money they could be getting from a enthusiastically supportive base is the two birds in the bush. Why chase what they might get, when they can hold on to what they have? Especially when they consider that letting go of the bird in the hand will cause it to fly straight over to join the birds already in their opponent's hand.

Now, we might say the bird in the hand is poisonous, and should be discarded regardless, but a look at longtime party leadership makes me think they know, and they don't care. Those people haven't cared for a long time, if they ever did. As long as the likes of Pelosi can keep their own seat, it doesn't matter how much damage is done to the country, they can keep enriching themselves while claiming to care.

Or, at least that's what it looks like from where I'm standing.

  • No one thinks an older account means a more valid opinion. However, brand new accounts are often trolls evading bans, so that's why that was mentioned. And I gotta say, your comments are coming off pretty trollish.

You keep saying that other comments are supporting Hamas and apologizing for terrorists when you are literally the only person talking about them in these comments so far. Critique of Israeli government is not an endorsement of Hamas, as they can, in fact, both be awful. I find it weird that you just assumed critique of one was somehow support of the other.

  • It's not meant to be taken literally, but as a blatant hyperbole. The joke is referencing the fact that 2 ply toilet paper is notably softer than 1 ply toilet paper, and extrapolating that to the fictitious extreme of 10 ply toilet paper which, if possible, would be unbelievably soft. It's from the show Letterkenny, as are a bunch of the other things people are commenting in response.

  • There was an anonymous statement by an employee that SpaceX basically has a small department whose entire purpose was to keep Musk distracted from anything important whenever he would get involved with "running" the company. Pretty sure the article I read that in said that they confirmed the employee's identity and it would explain a lot about their surprisingly successful work.

  • Not at all. He'd still do the evil stuff that benefits him personally, or that he does out of spite, or that he does because it riles up his supporters. Honestly, he'd probably still do some things to benefit Putin for free too, just to help out someone he admires. Still, I think he'd do less (or at least different) evil stuff if no one had been willing to buy him.

What would be notably different, I think, would be the amount of "disrespect" he puts up with from his buyers. Elon hasn't once been publicly deferential to Trump, when everyone else he's working with has to toe the line very carefully or get fired

  • It's my understanding that the executive does not have the authority to unilaterally change official geographic names. As of my writing this, the name “change” has NOT been adopted by the United States government. Congress granted that authority to the US Board of Geographic Names in 1890. Unless accepted by the US BoGN, it changes nothing. I suppose Congress could rename it if they passed a bill that the president signed into law overriding that authority for that specific case, but until they did so, it’s not official.

Here is the link to the US Geographic Names Information system page showing the current official name of the Gulf of Mexico: https://edits.nationalmap.gov/apps/gaz-domestic/public/search/names/558730. Note the list of accepted variant names, which still doesn’t include “Gulf of America”.

Google are saying here that they will only change it on maps if it's made official by the US Government, which has not happened yet. That's why they haven't made any change yet, and won't unless Trump gets the US BoGN to do his bidding.

Edit: well that didn't take long. They already made made the change.

  • Nah, he just does this every so often. He'll say something surprisingly sensible and moral like this when speaking of the cuff or reacting to new events, and then quickly backtrack on it when he remembers what the GOP want him to say. He knows his usual stances on topics are wrong, he just forgets to keep that to himself occasionally. It's extremely frustrating being one of his constituents.

  • I give it 24 hours, give or take, for Senator Spineless to remember who his masters are and publicly backtrack on this comment. It's weirdly not rare for him to say something good and sensible like this, but it's unheard of for him to not quickly denounce such statements in favor of the party line.

  • The name "change" hasn't even been adopted by the United States own government, because the president does not have that authority. Congress granted that authority to the US Board of Geographic Names in 1890. • I just checked there, and they have not renamed it, nor have they listed the new name as a recognized alternate name.

Whether of not an executive order can override the government agency specifically granted that authority by congress is of no concern to them. By law, the Board of Geographic Names is the final authority on geographic names. If they don't go along with this change, then the Trump admin would have to file an inter-government lawsuit about it.

  • He doesn't need to redefine violence. His follow up comments show that they will just claim that any violent Jan 6th criminal they pardon didn't really do any violence, and was convicted for a crime they didn't commit and any video evidence to the contrary is just fake new.

  • It's the only way to season food. If you're good enough, you can just imagine the flavors, but I still have to rummage the spice cabinet and sniff to get the dish to taste just right.

  • With a deep enough knowledge of how baking works, it can be done. My sister improvises baked goods very well. The sad thing is that when one turns out amazing instead of just good, she can't replicate it because she doesn't know the recipe. I'm particularly sad I'll never again have the amazing butter rum pound cake she made for her daughter's birthday last year. She tried to make it again later, but it just wasn't the same. :(
