I kinda wish the government would recognize their sovereignty, and make them pass through customs every time they leave their property, cut off their public utilities, make them apply for a work visa…you know, give them the full experience.

Yeah it’s hard to have a good faith debate about a post that wasn’t made in good faith. Anyone who’s being intellectually honest wouldn’t try to equate these company mascots.

I was a huge fan. Watched it from season one on. Even had a House Stark banner. Now I don’t even think about it unless I see it mentioned on social media. Married with Children and Aqua Teen Hunger Force spontaneously pop into my mind 10 times more often than Game of Thrones.

I’ll never forgive D&D for what they did to that show. It was omnipresent in public consciousness for like a decade, and they fucked the last couple seasons so badly it’s now all but forgotten. It’s almost impressive in a depressing kind of way.

That’s not a bad idea. There’s actually a Unitarian church about two miles from my house. Last time I drove by there was a MAGA across the street shouting into a bullhorn, so that should at least make it interesting.

I’ve had this same question a hundred times. Seems like a lot of people find a sense of community in church, but I’m non-religious and I haven’t found a replacement.

I doubt anyone who believes that has a firm grasp of logic or reason.

Lots of things are “invented” in the mind that turn out to be hot garbage. Assuming they were somehow taught to us by the natural world without further scrutiny is a terrible method for discovering truth. Do you not understand?

And how do you determine whether or not your hypothesis is in accordance with natural law? Our current understanding of the atom wasn’t the only hypothesized model. It required further observation to improve our understanding. The natural truth is observable, but shallow observations without further analysis lead to flawed conclusions.

As is fantasy. You’re advocating for the scientific method to stop at hypothesis, and claiming that’s a legitimate method for finding truth. I can’t imagine being that incurious about the world around me.

The atom was hypothesized before it was theorized, and do all hypotheses turn out to be correct? Also, the atomic model explains pretty much all of chemistry. Seems pretty relevant to the way the world works.

Again, how does that help me understand the structure of the atom?

I’m curious how we would come to understand natural laws of atomic structure using logic and experience without microscopes. Discouragement of learning doesn’t normally lead to any “truth” that inconveniences the ruling class.

“Natural law” exists outside the realm of religion, and anyone who claims to know the “truth” has closed themself off to new information. The truth is observable, but what’s observable today wasn’t observable 200 years ago, and what’s observable 200 years ago likely isn’t observable today.

I never considered that, and it’s a damn tragedy. We gave the most short-sighted generation the longest lifespan in human history 🤦‍♂️

Let me know when all the religious folks can agree on what’s true and what’s not. Maybe then I can take religion seriously.
