  • This is exactly the reason I've been considering if it's possibly the time to start and launch a brand new search engine, especially now subscription based systems are so common.

With at the core a pledge to not record and/or share any user data or interaction and supported by a subscription service for who wants to pay and really oldschool tier selfhosted "sidebar" ads for the rest.

None of this "insert ads into content" shite.

For the algo, also far more oldschool "less intelligent", where keywords and content matter (backed by a curation of good/bad sites) and options for users to report sites, that will then be re-curated.

For adding sites, allow subscribers to suggest sites that then get listed to other subscribers (or if it grows large enough to support employees, subscribers AND employees) for validation.

If a site is then later found to be questionable, everyone that suggested and validated it can get a negative validation score, which will be used for future reference when selecting users to validate new sites.

Something like they get +1 for every validation they do.

But -1 for 1 bad validation, -11 for 2, -31 for 3, -61 for 4, -101 for 5, etc, so if they validate 100 sites and validate 5 incorrectly, they are no longer allowed to validate new sites.

And for validation, once there are enough subscribers, you take 100+ random subscribers, of which 50% needs to respond to validate and if 90% of responders validate positively, it passes. If less than 90% validate positively, it goes for manual review by the administration.

    Etc etc.

  • That's an interesting take.

These companies are accepting money from criminal enterprises to advertise criminal enterprises.

You don't need them to police people, you need them to stop being overt criminals themselves.

  • There's also plenty of it through entirely witting Westerners.

  • Here they tend to either ask you if you want green or black tea or bring you a box of lipton with various flavors and let you chose from that.

And 9/10 chance it'll taste moldy AF.

    Tea isn't very common here.

  • Imagine how stupid we look to water dwellers with our methods of self propelled moving trough water.

I bet the water fauna doesn't consider it swimming either and probably would have some funny name for it if they used a universal language.

  • In the valid to the discussion case you said something with no intent to harm or insult anyone and you didn't harm them, they decided you harmed them.

In the case of a car accident, you literally fucking killed someone.

It's Apples and Oranges, a false equivalence argument that goes straight into the trash.

  • Intent is everything and if someone is clearly not using a word with the intent to offend you, you being offended is a YOU problem, not a them problem.

And before you go say shit like able people can't know how bad it feels.

    1, I'm not "abled".
    2. I've had people call me these words meaning to offend and hurt me. THAT actually does hurt. These words being used without any intention to hurt or offend anyone, doesn't matter to me at all.

And sometimes, using those words to offend is perfectly appropriate to express what you want to convey.

Like how many Americans have absolutely retarded levels of overblown reactions with a word like cunt.

  • The scariest thing is when escalators malfunction.

At least with an elevator you'll either drop to your death or the brakes kick in making you just stuck for a few hours.

But an escalator, that's a cheese grater powered by a motor strong enough to lift dozens of people up a flight of stairs.

  • I seriously doubt appealing to the 80 year old, old money, white woman governor of Alabama who has a MAGA track record going as far as pushing the stolen election scam will bare any positive results.

  • I somewhat get people thinking having a good king is better than a bunch of quibling politicians, but kings weren't all powerful and the quibling politicians in their day were still the ones that actually ran the show.

And if you're going to chose a king, why chose orange painted generic loudmouth manchild number 5322.

  • Even a couple of bites is sufficient to severely boost your energy though.

And still having "some" intake of vitamins will probably help too.

You're clearly going trough a health crisis and getting severely weakened by not being able to eat is only going to make things progressively worse.

  • I love when erectile dysfunction is brought up whenever these freaks bring up how God made them.

  • It's most likely mostly that they'll have to sway that way no matter if they like it or not in Europe and they aren't going to make different phones for the different markets, so they flip the PR machine towards pretending THEM coming up with supporting right to repair, instead of being forced to by the EU.

  • What doesn't get imported by Firefox automatically can be downloaded from your google account directly. Every single bit of data they have on you.

  • And HR people can never be trusted to be on your side on any issue. Never, ever confide in an HR person, getting rid of you in some way is always the easiest solution to any problem.

Only when you first take outside council and then go to HR through them, do you have some sort of protection from getting swept under the rug.

  • If that is all you've taken out of seeing human history and haven't seen a trend directly related to the use and intake of heavy metals and the sort, and in the modern age the difference between murder rates in the US, by population and police, compared to the rest of the western world, you haven't seen nearly enough of human history to understand anything.

Historically, the prevalence of just lead on its own boosted the aggression and sociopathic behavior of the population to ludicrous extents and these days, when that should be very little of a factor, the US still far outranks anyone else on the same developmental level by obscene levels.

It's a combination of the US being sucky about environmental pollution and having a serious societal problem with police being murderous asshats and people being OK with it.

  • Is that the human condition or the prevalence of heavy metals in everything ...

Interesting how people chilled down worldwide the more we took those elements out of the food supply and are only more common in areas where the standards about heavy metals and other environmental pollutants are shit.

And for the western world, the US is an outright aberration, from general murder rates to how specifically the police are 10-20x more probable to murder people over absolutely nothing than anywhere else in the west.

Fuck, even Mexico has a lower deaths by police rate per capita than the US. And they are constantly at war with the cartels.

  • Don't forget lead and other heavy metal and environmental pollution having clear and proven effects on peoples aggression.

No wonder that in the days of drinking out of lead cups and using lead for plumbing, murder and general brutality was far more common.

Romans are a really good example of all this. They had so much lead in their system you couldn't take an X-ray of them if you wanted.
