Washington Press? I hate DeSantis, but this article is about a single 2,000 person conference canceling... Come on people, we can be better than this kind of shitposting here.

It's largely a problem of government that is exacerbated by the influence of the businesses themselves. It's the governments job to enact policy change that force business to address these issues and develop more sustainable production process and product offerings, but since the government has essentially been bought out by those same businesses, nothing happens at all.

We can't decouple business from government without policy changes that would place limitations on such influence, and we cannot enact those policies because of the influence from businesses. I don't see a solution unless people wise up and elect a lot of people in the same election cycle not beholden to these groups, but I don't know how that can be accomplished.

July is the real indicator with API being turned off on June 30th. I don't think the protests themselves had a big enough drop off, but I have to assume a lot of folks have either left or use only desktop currently once that happened.

It's not really that easy unfortunately. You can essentially 3D print gun parts now, and you can buy parts separately to make kits pretty easily to get around any kind of restrictions like that.

I've never understood anyone gatekeeping things they like. Wouldn't you want to date someone who is into the things you're into? I think it's changing with younger generations, but when I grew up I remembered hearing the same guys saying they wish they could date a woman who is into Star Wars and video games, but then would gatekeep any woman they met who was into those things as if they are just faking it.

I was a RIF user for as long as it's been around, and have had a Reddit account for 12+ years now. It's unfortunate to have to walk away, but I honestly had been hating it there for a while.
