  • And Nick Land, as well as the wider Dark Enlightenment.

  • Yeah, we usually tick along at 1 or 2 sign-ups a day, 7 days ago that went to 10 and has settled back to 3 or 4.

I don't know if they are coming directly from Pixelfed but there were a few high profile posts about the Fediverse over at The Bad Place, so, following the example of @Blaze@feddit.org, a few of us jumped in to do some missionary work/help man the lifeboats.

  • I'll second Sharkey, I was on a Firefish instance thst migrated over (seamlessly) and the features are a great improvement over Mastodon.

Iceshrimp (another *key fork) is being rewritten and that might make it the superior cousin but, until then Sharkey is solid.

  • The survey also shows they've rejected organised religion.

  • I was friends with a number of Hindus at university many moons ago. We always got on well but then they'd boast about going out and smashing up the cars of white people. All very odd. I suspect the problem now is, with the rise of Modi, there's a lot Hindu nationalism and anti-Mualim sentiment. The report seems to especially focus on the Hindu-Muslim clashes in Leicester.

Home country politics playing out here isn't exactly new - here in Liverpool we had a branch of the Ulster Volunteer Force and I've had (distant) family members in the IRA. The Orange marches still cause tension - I had a friend whose granny always took him down so he could turn his back on them (which I am sure he could.have done from the comfort of his own home).

  • Oh boy. When people hope that Lemmy kills Reddit, I hope it doesn't so all the frothers stay over there.

  • Yeah if the primary focus is on Prevent then its scapegoating.

Indeed, it says it right at the start:

Prevent’s assessment of the danger posed by Axel Rudakubana followed policy at the time

Now it could be argued that other services binning dangerous kids onto them because they don't have the budget has forced them to strictly apply their criteria but it is there to prevent terrorism not assess everyone who poses a threat.

I'd hope it would lead to more systematic reform but I fear a few heads will roll and that will be deemed to be suitable action. While I am aure Labour would love to pin the blame in the Tories, any solutions to the mess from the previous administration will be expensive and the cupboards are bare.

  • Rudakubana had been deemed unsuitable for Prevent because he did not follow any ideology.

    ...

Fahy said cuts to other services have led to more work for Prevent: “More referrals are going into Prevent as other services have been cut because of austerity.”

That's the problem. A lot of people are being referred to Prevent who aren't terrorists and really need better mental health care but the funding gets cut.

That's why we need holistic solutions because cutting services in one place can just push people onto the books of more expensive ones.

  • Well we don't know anything about them, so...

  • So you can get a greater profit from captive markets with little competition. Odd that.

  • Let's hope this helps dansup get past the recent unpleasantness and he can delegate more. His output is amazing but burnout is a concern.

  • Was started by the Friendica developer but it is more of a federated CMS where Friendica is more of a social network, although they share similar DNA and can do some similar things. They are now being developed by different teams so will tend to diverge more over time.

  • We use Open Collective to fund the instance and it has been pretty smooth sailing. Would definitely recommend to anyone running an instance.

  • This seems like a good offer.

  • Careful, I think you are choking on something.
