I don’t think people are smart or sane enough for self governance. Just look how many trump supporters there are. To let them wild and expect to have some sane self organisational system that isn’t outright slavery of minorities…
Democracy is a screening test for anarchism, first step. If you fail it, there is no sense pursuing the latter. Only country apparently smart enough to arrive at the next step - direct democracy, is Switzerland.
What we all really mean is that the current borders in the age of internet grow weaker and weaker. People want to have their own countries with likeminded folks. It’s only a matter of time before internet tribalism materialises in reality as the web permeates our culture deeper and deeper.
USA will probably split sooner or later unless someone can unite people again.
America is such a violent country. No one comes out unscathed from this madness. Police fears citizens, citizens fear police. Only the gangs and criminals are the winners.
This is not just some technology but something that may lead to a true artificial intelligence with all the far reaching consequences. It’s like nukes and manhattan project.
If we had feasible way to prevent birth of true AI I am sure most would want to stop just before it becomes sentient and spreads to every network connected device in the world.
I still prefer nerdy hipster elitists gatekeepers from greedy corps after all is said and done. The first is unfortunate flaw of human character, the second is a calculated machine. If this is the price to pay then so be it. Individuality often isn’t as nice on the surface as the common but the common often has hidden sinister motives under the comfy, smoothened out rug of user friendliness.
Lonely nerds don’t have PR and marketing teams but also won’t stab you in the back for profit. Sometimes they can be huge assholes though.
I am just making fun of all those AI doomsayers on Reddit. It’s nowhere close enough to be even called such. It’s just a mindless algorithm, a tool. Math operation. Are calculators smart? Well yes from a certain point of view.
There is some truth to what you say but the game is more than a sum of its parts. Even though individual strokes of game dev brush may be not perfect the whole package as of today creates memorable, even unforgettable experience.
I played it quite recently I think the community has solved that problem, even online iirc it worked. Don’t remember the links though. It’s still fun and a good escape when warhammer gets stale.
I do remember it was bashed for drm on release though. I also remember these things called no-dvd cracks you pulled form the shady websites with disgusting porn ads to not have to have the disc in your drive at all times. Also avast antivirus shenanigans. I wouldn’t say it was good old times but it all had certain flavour though I probably wouldn’t want to go back in time haha.
Gaming is generally in an amazing place now with an exception of few things lost along the way one of which is aaa RTS and another early Bethesda rpg genre, they totally changed their games starting with oblivion.
Battle for Middle Earth was my favourite game ever probably or at least among top 3.
Honestly between the 4x warhammer total war and rts bfme I think bfme was slightly more fun.
It’s a real shame the genre is so forgotten.
RTS is more organic genre without incessant thinking about numbers and save scumming while 4x always feels like Math.
Every game session of RTS game is slightly different even with the same map and enemy parameters providing for a way more replayability value and unpredictable chaos that you need to manage in real time. It’s much more engaging this way.
It’s still about numbers under the hood but more organic while 4x feels like an excel spreadsheet sometimes. There are less solutions to victory, sometimes even only one proper, predetermined before playing and that’s boring.
Another gem was Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War: Dark Crusade. They made 2 sequels but none captured the gameplay of the first one. For some unknown reason they scrapped everything what made the original good in the second game, making it completely different. The third one was an attempt to go back to the mechanics of the first one but it was mediocre.
Being American isn’t a choice but religion is. And I also would hope for America fall but the problem is that it needs to be strong to face China and Russia. It’s true that the history of America is shameful at best and outright criminal at worst. We all have our pieces of national guilts. Religion however serves nothing. It’s just a drug for the mind, to placate the brain from the raw, cruel reality of cosmos. Not for me to say that it is inherently a bad thing in itself however catholic church definitely is a bad thing in itself. Again, find better religion.
However in thinking about choices we must also consider the shameful indoctrination of children by Catholics this is the only reason why it could be said that it isn’t their choice. Because it was made for them. It’s tragic and criminal. Such practice should be prosecuted.
This is a reason I usually pity Catholics rather than hate them. Because the choice was made for them. They had no say whether they want to be indoctrinated or not. Usually it is so ingrained that even years later after they leave the church they have problems with natural bodily functions.
Is this really a hallmark of healthy organisation? No. It is nothing more than a cult.
Such organisation should be pushed to irrelevancy if we want to progress further as a civilization. Their influence must wane. Which is a process that has already started.
American fall would also be welcome however, it is currently impossible due to character of geopolitical arena. We need strong America with their tanks, aircraft carriers and nukes. We need NATO. In this way I am sort of a patriot. I believe in the power of steel to defend us from the bloodthirsty Russian dictators. Thus my heart sees american military with joy, being well aware it is the only thing between me and Putin’s rainbow genocide.
Yes well turns out it is an innate part of those kind of forums. The more specialised the topic the less drama generally. There is very few places with no drama whatsoever on the web.

I am merely intolerant of an intolerant organisation. It can be summed up in one sentence really. Not every organisation needs to be tolerated. Some are too oppressive.
Find some better religion. A one without thousand years history of killings, murder and rape. A one that isn’t a hypocritical pile of junk.
I know the scripture and the official interpretation and that in itself is enough. I am not damning, you misunderstood me. I am not proclaiming that catholics are worse. I just find it aligning with my best interests to pursue downfall of catholicism so to say. It is rather calculated and well thought position than some kind of fit of anger or even hate. It is what benefits me.
If this interpretation ever changes then I will reassess the situation. For now it is beneficial for me to hold this position considering the deeply ingrained rules of that religion being incompatible with me.
There is a bigger enemy however - Islam. I’d be even willing to temporarily join the catholics against them to stop the wave of Islam from spreading to Europe which would be disastrous for me.
Frankly if the Catholic Church changed a little and modernised their conservative interpretations they would be an extremely valuable organisation to me to help me ensure my continued well being and survival.
It could indeed happen in the near future considering the tendencies. To ensure their own survival they will probably have to remodel some of their core philosophies. However the current pope is clearly clueless and unfit for this considering the awkward and dumb attempt at staying neutral during Russian invasion. It was a terrible move. A mistake that can cost everything this organisation really.
Average voter blah blah, that’s why we can’t have nice things. I hate elitism but it’s hard to ignore mundane reality.
This is why education is so important. It’s what separates us from wild beasts.
