  • Disagree. I've always understood it to mean approximately two. Usually 2-3; 4 isn't outlandish.

Unless that's the meaning, the expression doesn't have a reason to exist. So that's how I decide to interpret it.

  • Rogue was the first, and thus the trend was named after it. There would need to be something extremely significant to override that. Someone would need to invent a catchier name and popularize it to the point that it starts competing with the old one and eventually overtake it.

It would need to be like what happened to the term "Doom clone".

I wonder if the same will happen with the term "soulslike".

  • To be honest I just look at the state of the world and laugh like I'm watching a sad comedy.

And I avoid thinking about how I'm in it and I have basically zero power over it.

I vote for whomever is the least bad candidate and try not to think about it too much the rest of the time.

  • I expected it to be popular in China, but I didn't expect the ratio to be that skewed. Haven't we been hearing about this game for years?

I don't often buy new releases, especially not if I have a big backlog, but I've been interested in this game for quite a while.

  • I love to eat a bowl of them for breakfast. But sometimes I have trouble waking up and don't have time for them. Then I reach the weekend, looking forward to finally eating them... And half of them have spoiled. Damn it. I really wish they lasted longer.

  • I'm talking about things that are possible. There wasn't any physically unavoidable reason the colonization of North America had to turn into the mess it did.

It was sparsely populated. It would have been possible for Europeans to negotiate in good faith, not kick people out of where they lived, and fairly compensate for any harm caused.

And in fact, while overall the result was overall pretty damn deplorable, you can dig in history and find some examples where it went well, at least for a while.

My point is that it's not that settling is not inherently borderline an act of war. It can easily, and it often does, turn out badly, no one's arguing against that.

But even though that's the case, there are degrees to these things. Between literal genocide and cultural harm, for instance.

Am I arguing that anyone SHOULD settle any area? Not really. But I'm also not willing to put literally every case in the same basket.

  • Thanks. I'll give it a try. I'd never found an alternative to Gboard that works as well when it comes to swipe typing, learning words missing from the dictionary, Japanese flick / handwriting input, and one-handed mode. It'll be big if this is finally it.

Edit: works well for an alpha. UI is unexpectedly polished. Gesture typing needs to get better, there's no one-handed mode yet and I need an option to shrink the UI a bit because right now it's huge. I'm really impressed with it so far though. Really nice that you can customize dictionaries and action buttons and stuff. Not quite baked enough for me yet but I see huge potential. I bought the premium version to support them and will be cheering for them while staying on Gboard for now.
