  • To all the people who believe Ukraine should continue fighting, why do you not volunteer?
The ukranians do not wish to fight this war. They have to be forced. The men are not allowed to leave, the average age in the army is 43 and the army has to forcibly conscript people to force them to the front 1 2 3 going so far as to raid high school gyms

It is clear the average ukrainian does not wish to fight. If you believe this war must continue, why do you not volunteer? Surely you are not that much of a coward that you find it acceptable people should be forced to be thrown into a meatgrinder?

  • The average age of the ukrainian forced conscript fighter is 43. NATO countries have emptied their stockpiles and are struggling to rearm, hampering their abilities to deal with other crises (like Ansar Allah), the West is staring down the barrel of a massive recession as gas prices still climb and production falls lower and lower. Russia is still able to produce enough shells to maintain a stockpile, and manages to hold and advance its fronts when it wishes, something that cannot be said for Ukraine or NATO.
The ukrainians do not wish to fight. They are being kidnapped to the front, their passports are taken from them. Why should this war continue? Russia is still ascendant, the ukrainians do not wish to fight, and they have just now received an incredibly generous offer? If you still believe this cause is necessary, why do you not volunteer? Ukraine needs bodies.

  • Joining NATO would mean nuclear holocaust. Thankfully some people are rational enough to realise that this would be a bad thing. Joining NATO in spite of pledging not to would also delegitimize NATO and Ukraine in the eyes of the international community furthering the developing multipolarity we see. There is also the question of wether or not NATO membership is even on the table for Ukraine. Before the war Zelensky was informed he had to pretend it was, while having been informed it wasn't behind closed doors.

  • Shouldn't the Leopard tanks have turned the tide of battle? Or the NATO equipment and training? Or the other round of NATO equipment and training? Or the MANPADS? Or the third shipment of NATO equipment and training? Or the F-16s that are totally coming any day now (which will definitely turn the tide of the war guise! It's not silly to make a plane that can't handle dirt on the airway)? What about the drone tactics Ukraine used to terrorbomb russian civilian targets, wasn't that supposed to turn the tide of the war? What about the bombing of the Crimea bridge, how come that didn't turn the tide of the war?
You guys keep saying Russia is about to run out of equipment, but they still have stocks and stocks of shells, meanwhile NATO countries are struggling to rearm after having donated so much equipment to Ukraine. Maybe there isn't a wunderwaffe that will win the war, and maybe it's senseless to continue this meat-grinder. The Ukrainians don't want to fight, they have to be forcibly conscripted.
But! If you think they should continue to die for some vague cause, why don't you go volunteer? They need bodies. The average age is 43, so you won't be turned away for being "too old" or "too young". Why don't you volunteer for Ukraine?

  • @InappropriateEmote@hexbear.net took the time to give you a thoughtful response and all you could do was admit that you're talking out of your ass, do false equivalencies and spout empty nothings like "all countries have shed blood". You failed to meaningfully engage with the arguments in any way, and that is clear for all to see. Why then do you think other users would respond with anything other than derision?
"That sums up the propaganda argument" no it sums up someone not taking you seriously, because you show yourself not to be serious. You're a useful idiot for the us state department thinking you've reached some sort of enlightened knowledge whilst you're failing to investigate the most basic of resources, even when they're laid at your feet.
People like you are all the same. You talk shit, someone corrects you and you ignore it, and when others then talk shit back at you, you act incredulous. Fuck you.

  • Yes we agree. So the response is not "its not an issue" the response is that there are alternatives to bikes. I perceived your response as a sort of sarcastic dismissal and I see now I misread the tone and content, sorry.

  • How do elders deal with ...

    Skill issue.

Being elderly or physically handicapped is not a question of "being out of shape".

Also your dismissal of the fact that overweight people exist and also need to get around is indicative of a poor understanding of good urban planning.

  • "obviously the exceptions that make it so my comments aren't fitting and showcase ableism don't count. Everyone know that. You are the stupid one. I have depicted myself as the streamer for a third time to hammer this home."

The initial question is about those who are too physically unfit to scale a steep hill. Responding with "skill issue" is ableist specifically because we're talking about the "exception"

  • Consider people who are physically impaired instead of dismissing real problems?

  • Yeah the bikes are super cool, there's lots of different ones too. I once got overtaken by a guy who pedalled with his arms, made me feel like a scrub.

It is a big issue when we don't plan for those that don't fit into our ideal of a "normal" person, because when we default to that we default to planning for men - and really planning for no one.
If you're interested you should look up "gendermainstreaming". Vienna has a very good manual on it.

I think people here get defensive about bikes because they're used to arguing against carbrained folks all the time. It should also be noted a city designed for bikes and walkability will be easier to travel in for those who have trouble walking, than a city designed for cars, even if concessions aren't made.

  • There's wheelchair accessible bikes, but you are actually correct. Good urbanism requires us to take into account not just those who conform to society, but all it's people. Interestingly an inclusive and accommodating city is also an economically strong one - in the long run more productive potential is freed and less resources are spent on patch-fixing a broken structure (this isn't why its good to do, but it's a nice argument to have when you're talking to people who are afraid that wed be making a better world for no reason other being good people).

This is your reminder to read Invisible Women by Criado Perez

  • how do you travel to another city?

Train, bus, electrical bike, rideshares for the last mile maybe.

What do you do if the city has high slopes making walking and biking too hard?

Get off and walk, use a bike with electrical assistance, use a different type of mobility assistance if i am very physically impaired.

how do elders deal with what other citizens would take for granted in terms of mobility?

See above + Elders are typically more physically able due to having lived a life of regular everyday exery + their everyday destinations are not several miles away + "car free" doesn't paradoxically mean free of cars, just almost all cars - ambulances are still needed for example - as such if a person is so impaired that no mobility assistance is enough to get them to their destination, then they can still be taxied by help.

  • True, but a bike costs a fraction of a car, so it's also much less of an issue if it happens.

I'm gonna say I disagree. The only reason a bike is easier to steal is because the cops give even less of a shit about it.

  • If you're interested in theory on this subject I'd recommend looking into "theory of practice". It's all about this and, like with every single other good urban planning thing, it's not at all new. We just pretend like it is so that politicians might finally do something other than build a fucking road.
