  • We're going to see more of this shit as wealth inequality continues to balloon. The old logic that money was made selling the most products to the most people is eroding, money is now either made extracting rent from normal people or selling prohibitively expensive status symbols to an elite class with so much money they can piss it away endlessly.

It's why the richest man in the world went from the man who sold the most things, to the man who sold the most prestigious cars, to the man who sells handbags.

  • To run a heat engine you need a temperature difference in order to generate work. When your system generates heat as a byproduct you can amplify the amount of work by increasing the temperature difference. This is how the cold block "stores" energy.

What's your source on 90% efficiency? Here it's stated 35% max.

  • Also it costs a fuckton to prosecute and in many ways is any easy way out. What, you're giving the guy who shot 3 kids and then tried to shoot himself the death penalty?

Life in prison, where the food is just enough to not starve, the healthcare just enough to continue your suffering, where you're surrounded 24/7 by the worst of humanity is about as close to hell as we know exists. Just put people in there.

  • Check this out: https://raygen.com/projects/raygen-power-plant#resources

Batteries were a stopgap until we worked out something better. This plant gets 70% efficiency and more than enough energy storage by refrigerating a cold block, then using stored waste heat + the cold block to create a temperature differential, creating steam (in a closed loop, don't need a big water supply) to spin a turbine that generates power when the sun goes down. Absolutely genius, already deployed and operating and yet nobody is talking about it.

  • You're getting downvoted but this will be correct. DLSSFG looks dubious enough on dedicated hardware, doing this on shader cores means it will be competing with the 3D rendering so will need to be extremely lightweight to actually offer any advantage.

  • This is clearly an issue but they are compounding issues, not mutually exclusive ones.

If the parents are working the kids will be at childcare or school. The iPad use is when the parents have the children at home or out, it's a choice of the parents not to engage with their kids.

I'm a parent and I have zero issue doing washing, dishes, cooking, cleaning or any of my other housework while my kids "help" or are otherwise engaged, talking, singing etc. It is agonizing sometimes but that's the choice you make when you value your children.
