  • Solar Hydro has pretty much solved the baseload problem.

    • Generates power at night and on demand during peaks.
    • Can store excess energy from the grid during times of low cost.
    • Spinning mass means it can play the same role as coal/nuclear in grid infrastructure.
  • The genius part of that IMO is storing energy as cold, not just as heat.

You need a heat difference to run a heat engine, and the energy lost refrigerating the cold block is more than made up for by making the "waste heat" into usable energy.

  • They don't want to spruik nuclear, they don't give a fuck about nuclear, they just want to stole conflict in the clean energy discussion while they burn coal for as long as possible. It's the only thing Dutton knows how to do, unfortunately it's more effective of some issues than others.

  • Feel such whiplash talking about solar with Australians and Americans.

Australians are like "yeah mate I put solar on and me bills are about $15 a month fucken sweet as"

Americans are like "I would love to get solar but what do you do when there is a cloud???"

  • Now that you mention it it's kinda weird it isn't. When our phones, servers, infrastructure, social networks, chat apps and even AI are all open source why are games all still built on proprietary software?

  • The NSA is not a threat to your cybersecurity. If they want information from you they will put you in a van and beat you with a wrench until you give them the password. If the US Govt has decided you are a threat your problems are bigger than if someone can steal your Steam account.
