  • The state defines what an "illegal immigrant" is. Why should I agree with their definition of an illegal immigrant is?

The Nazis were just rounding up illegal Jews. Why was it so bad that they rounded up illegal Jews?

The plantation owners just wanted to own Black people. Black people had no rights, so what's the problem with owning them?

Do not conflate legality with morality.

  • Generally, they will move the graveyard is there's nearby construction. They need to get permission from the next of kin to do it though. There's one semi-famous example in New Jersey where they could not find any next of kin for a single grave and ended up building around it. There's also one graveyard that's been cut right in half by a highway.

American's value capitalism more then the Japanese respect their dead, so it's not hard to convince Americans to truck their ancestors around.

  • Did you actually watch the dub? I don't know how you can watch the show and not see the intent. Fuji TV just said they weren't interested in micromanaging the dubbing or marketing of the show. The script was written in the writer's room and the voice actors were involved. Dubs, whether legit or shitposts, don't just happen.

Found a con interview with one of the VAs. Some of the finer details were off, but jokes were very much intentional.

  • It can also be propaganda against something that obviously true. It can be used to gaslight people into not believing their own eyes. Like being told that Trump isn't leading to a more hateful country and it's only twitter memes that make him look bad.

  • I also run a lot of ad blockers and tracking blockers as well as educate myself on how advertisers use people's insecurities against them. The "How TV Ruined Your Life" series is a pretty comprehensive. Coercion by Douglas Rushkoff is also great for immunizing yourself.

edit: Updated with links. The core of Coercion is still relevant, but it's tech/internet perspective was from the early 2000s.
