  • Lack of empathy. In their minds it will never be them who is tricked into an abusive marriage or will need the abortion or get sick or hurt and need assistance or want things people twll them they shouldn't. Those are the things that happen to the dumb and immoral people do and to their mind those people deserve to struggle as consequences for their sins. They are comfortable feeling that they are counted among the narrowly defined righteous and they will never waver... Because deep down they know that if they let go of that comfort of feeling absolutely resolute they are the model on which the rest of womanhood should aspire to be then they have to reckon with all the pain they caused to people.

  • It's a very common thing for people to equate queerness with other concepts of otherness like "not from my group!" type pearl clutching. Bigots in a lot of places are weirdly more accepting of individual queer folks when they are noticeably foreign and more treat the concept of people being queer as an outside corrupting influence... Nevermind that the existence of queerness is basically a universal. People from non-permissive places really don't want to believe that their culture will also constantly manifest new queer people. They often believe something along the lines of if they stamp on it hard enough it becomes more rare instead of just more people hiding and struggling in isolation and silence often risking their lives if they misjudge a social situation or dying because of a pervasive sense of dispair.

But no matter how hard you stomp the "problem" never goes away. You have to keep stomping forever in perpetuity. The boot must always rest heavy on someone's neck and will never touch floor again because there will always be someone there to rise if the pressure ever stops. It's in part why the concept of people essentially just being "born that way" has been so powerful.

  • Basically alcohol and the tiniest smidgen of weed. I am allergic to hops and pot as it turns out so wheezing like I am dying or throwing up doesn't seem worth the plusses. Still figure I got off lightly though, got a buddy who can't go into cities or near concerts because one whiff will send her into anaphylaxis.

As for everything else I just am leery. Too many elementary school buddies dead from Fentanyl and I saw a lot of really fucked up shit from my friend's addict parents when I was a kid.

  • I think the tactics here are aiming to be read by the Red hats. If the piece were more generally how Trump is A steaming pile of shit they would categorically reject it as anti-Trumpist propaganda. This seems to be trying to errode confidence from his base by accepting their premise that he is effective.

Basically like trying to give a dog a pill. You stick it in the mid of a tasty sausage or something so they don't automatically spit it out.

  • It sounds like the poster is looking at "conservative" by it's more objective view. Conservative is often a brand more than a strict political position since it has connotations of fiscal austerity, calm and measured or more "traditional" in value than party X.

Conservatism outside the brand however has a political throughline that aggregates around a few specific ideas. Generally speaking what they are actually conserving (once you bust through the rhetoric that usually tries to disguise it) is the idea of heirachy and legitimizing pre-existing power structures that stack power vertically rather than scattering it horizontally.

Not all Democrats are highly "conservative" but those who aren't don't tend to do well internally inside the party long term. They do however like to trot them out when allowing for starry eyed dreaming hour because it's good for their image. The main party throughline is kind of middle of the scale. It's not to say they can't be forced to be less conservative by circumstance since as long as they are more "Progressive" in ways that align with that branding pattern than their opposition then they are bound to need to back that image up from time to time to get to keep that spot in the minds of their audience as being "left of center" .

But "Progressive" just like "conservative" has shallow surface level brand connotations that have nothing to do with the political compass.

  • You are correct, the objective of ranked choice voting is not to empower the two existing parties. It is to create a system that it amenable to having more than two parties so of course the powers that be who benefit from that system don't want that - which is why it needs to be pressed because the two major block parties increasingly obstructionist and diverging will eventually cause a civil war. Smaller parties allow for more nuanced takes requiring cross party concensus and break up the stratification. If the game of democracy ends the Dems will end up with their heads on a plate so whatever kickbacks they receive from the status quo won't be worth jack.

  • This is something people often do not realize. Proper process is slow and nothing for sure works UNTIL it gets challenged. A law could be on the books for 50 years but it might as well have been passed yesterday if they are enacting it for the first time. Until someone is actually effected it's basically inert... and establishing precedent can be a fucking mess.

Creating a law with teeth that can not be easily challenged for poor phrasing, unintended exemptions or loopholes takes time. If a law is written that doesn't correctly follow the correct proceedure for it's original implementation it can turn out to be the legal equivalent of a temporary tattoo.

That was kind of the only saving grace of the Trump presidency- he is incredibly shit at working inside the law. When people bang on about "How good he was on economic affairs" they don't realize how all of his international trading stunts only lasted as long as the court preparations to refute them. Him passing his tariffs and "winning" on trade deals was big press but those deals being dismantled and damages being sought barely made the papers.

It wasn't like the US's international court lawyers didn't try and defend those deals under Biden. They really tried. But when what you defend is hastily scribed garbage legislation made as a political stunt you're fucked.

  • Generally speaking "kids" covers anybody under the age of about 18 so yes sexually developed kids are included. Remember that puberty starts around 11 years old.

Gender incongruence also doesn't fully rely on sexual characteristics alone. An aspect of gender is that it is inate. Trans children are often confused by what they are told if they try and self identity and are told that they are not that gender by adults who represent an authority. It is actually very easy to essentially gaslight your child into self identiting as their birth sex if they are kept in situations where don't know there are other options... But just because they don't know being trans is a thing doesn't mean that they aren't trans or struggle with being trans. It just means they do so in isolation where they don't have words. When I was growing up that was the case.

After a certain point a lot of the social siloing process puts you in a social category where you are segregated. For a lot of people this is fine. The silo puts them with other people who don't mind being siloed. A lot of cis people don't seem like they are comfortably cis because they have a gender identity that solidly matches their sex... It's like they have a nebulous gender identity where they don't really care. Whatever program they are given is fine so they have real issues understanding having a strong fixed gender identity at all. When someone with no real preference is told their social category is tied to their sex they have no reason to question treating the two as linked facts. If a cis person has a strong sense of gender identity and it matches then that's great! They experience gender euphoria, actually joy from expressing and being that matchup. They can also better relate to a mismatch.

Trans people however have an intenal sense of what they are and also what they are not that doesn't easy match with this concept of linked social and physical category. Other people of your birth sex never register to your brain fully as being "like you" so when people of your birth sex whose gender aligns or at least doesn't chafe are your only social bonding options you just feel alone, oddly alien and like there isn't really a solution for those things.

Being trans means trying to fit in with your birth sex makes just makes you feel more fake. You very quickly understand that there is a host of expectations about who you are, who it's normal to be friends with, what things you like and what activities you get to participate in based on your genitals. I grew up with generally depressed, socially anxious and feeling invisible as being my baseline normal because nothing I was handed or expected to do along this category resonated... so I was rejected by everyone for essentially never being comfortable. Trying to fake being comfortable so you aren't alone doesn't ultimately make you feel less alone.

All this before puberty. Once puberty hits the shit really hits the fan because people at the same time your body is changing in a very body horroresque way start treating you in ways where your sex is highlighted and comes with a whole host of new social gendered expectations. Everyone treats it all as a difficult rite of passage for everyone but at the same time you can see in real time that your struggle and a cis person's struggle are very different.

  • Pick!

    Jump
  • Backflips. Never been the least bit athletic aside from my lifting strength and endurance. Just to surprise the everliving hell out of my friends and then never do so again without ever offering an explanation.

  • Thing is though that being a Producer comes with different rules on a set. In a normal circumstance narcing on one can be a career limiting move which is why anonymous union and studio hotlines exist but little fly by night passion projects don't have those. I have seen some really messed up stuff happen when one of the people who puts up the money for the paychecks is in an indispensable role and they flagrantly break a rule... But this case where the highest ranked on set safety officer is the other half of the equation doing it what in the absolute fuck do you do about it?

Given how people were already leaving the show for reasonable safety concerns (which believe me usually have to be pretty agregrious for people to actually split when they are working shows like this ) you can kind of tell tell what the general Producer/Production Manager attitude was about crew safety versus Producer privilege. Technically speaking I think all of them should be at least fined up the ass but it's so rare that a Producer, celebrity or not is literally left holding a smoking gun.

We as a culture need to really start looking at the power dynamics on a set because lemme tell you - they fucking matter and they can get you killed.

  • This is more than a little misogynistic. There are female armorers in their 20's out there who are kicking ass after a couple of gigs and old dogs who refuse to change with the times who are timebombs waiting to go off. Gender, how pretty you are, even experience have nothing to do with aptitude. On a set it's more mindset, willingness to learn, commitment to doing the craft well and wits than experience.

You want to blame something, blame industry nepotism. That's why she was there. She's the kid of another armorer who pulled strings for her to get her jobs. Not a gendered thing either. The majority of people I see fucking shit up in my industry aren't there because someone has aspirations to sleep with them, it's because they are somebody's kid, relative or best friend and they can't be fired.

Film has enough gendered bullshit issues without people pulling this shit about one of the few departments that actually has gender parity.

  • Honestly they have sown the myths of trans healthcare so hard that people legit believe 5 year olds are receiving puberty blockers. The barest of sense is easier to hijack than people can believe. It's why we can't depend on a majority vote for stuff like this. The airbrains are being given butterflies to chase and then telling us we're crazy. They probably have some fictional bogeyman-esque case someone wrote an article about or a interviewee they managed to play out of context nonsense from to cite you.

  • English is dumb. We got the term "seasoned" to mean like a veteran fighter, something aging properly and using salt and spice from the French "assaisoner" which means "to ripen / to improve with time" which we expanded upon by being like "when things become tastier" which is how we started applying it to using spices and salt...

In this case it means sort of speed running getting the oil sheen a cast iron cooking implement used to naturally get by just using it over and over when cooking over wood or peat hence "ripening" the pan. Way back in the day in England and France they didn't really use soap for dishes. You washed them with water and left them outside in UV light to sterilize them so all iron cooking things tended to naturally develop that nice carbon coat. Time and use made them better hence "seasoned".

  • Maltheism or Dystheism might be your bag. Dystheism is the idea that God(s) are not all good and may be evil and Maltheism is a more recent addition that posits a strong belief that there exists only a categorically evil divinity.
