  • To help them out, you could unselect those services which require payment inside Plex, and just leave the streamers to which they have access?

I’m not aware of any alternative services on Apple TV that do this. Certainly Just Watch and services that interact with it will work, but not with the same integration with my own library.

  • There's no reason to use Plex as a front end for all other streaming services.

I’ll disagree here. If I don’t know where something is, I can just list all of the streaming services I subscribe to in Plex and just go there to start watching something.

Moreover the individual streaming services have designed their apps to literally hide the shows you’ve been watching whereas Plex keeps things front and centre. Much smoother.

  • Conrad captures the male experience/perspective - especially friendships, loneliness, and expectations in a way that I feel is unequalled*. Weather Man comes to mind, but Patriot is a perfect delight. It’s like someone made a show just for me.

*Bill Lawrence is a peer, especially in capturing male friendships.

  • Renfield - I'm a sucker for a good vampire flick and this did it for me

Hells yeah. My wife and I just had to rewatch that scene from the climax a few times because we were laughing so hard.

  • When I watch a Villeneuve sci-fi it all feels very safe and respectable, like the folks involved don't want to stray too far from the source material

I mean there was at least one rather substantial change in Arrival from the Chiang short story that made it pretty different from my perspective. Wasn’t aware there was source material for 2049 beyond the screenplay. Adapting Dune is another animal to be sure. But I’m not sure about the generalization to all of Villeneuve’s sci-fi.

  • Plugging the provider’s SFP+ module into a UDM Pro is my plan for when I inevitably upgrade to multigig. You can spoof the ONT/modem/router’s MAC address in software. Suspect the same is possible on other more advanced platforms.

  • Ok so here’s the story of Windex…

In Greece, rubbing alcohol is frequently used as a cure-all for aches and pains, zits, all the stuff we see Gus use Windex for in the first movie. But the thing is that in Greece, rubbing alcohol is dyed blue.

Upon immigration to North America, they sought out the same folk remedy of rubbing alcohol, but it was missing the characteristic blue dye. So they substituted the available item that was a blue cleaning solution…Windex.

    So, there you go…

  • Long COVID includes mitochondrial and endothelial dysfunction, postural tachycardia (can’t stand up in the shower), and many other features which are not typically part of depression. Long COVID (may be better to use the term myalgic myeloencephaletis) can certainly precipitate mood disorders, but they are typically reactive, or adjustment related.

  • Their enterprise line has switches with 2.5Gb ports. They’re particularly popular among the rack-porn crowd as they have all their ports in a single line instead so they can have just one patch panel and all the ports line up nicely. It only does POE+, not ++, which would be nice for running a POE switch in the garage that could drive both an access point and some cameras.

They also sell SFP+ modules that do 10/5/2.5 Gb

  • Lots of great suggestions but none really focussed on your concern about keeping track of magic in combat. If this is a question of keeping track of buffs, concentration, magical effects, or conditions, I found using “condition rings” on the players’, creatures’, and NPCs’ minis made this much easier. I started off with just the plastic rings off milk jugs or pop bottles, but fancy ones with the words written right on them make a nice gift request for a birthday etc.

  • You create inter vlan rules that allow connections from your main vlan to the other vlans, but only allow established and related traffic from the secondary vlans back to the main vlan.

I have a separate vlan for IoT and guests but punch holes for contact back to my HomePods(main vlan) for my Ecobee thermostat (IoT vlan) to contact so my kids can use Siri to get the weather in the mornings, and for guests to use the printer, that sort of thing.

  • Interesting how everyone is focussed on his previous acting turn as Lando and not on his significant writing chops. To be in the 30 Rock writers room as a student at NYU (and just like Kenneth Ellen Parcell, he’s from Stone Mountain, GA) to doing absolutely everything on Atlanta (acting, writing, directing, producing), is a pretty solid resume arc. I’ll choose to trust his considerable skill.

  • It is fantastic. The music editor made some amazing choices (the OK Go song from the final season (E11 I think?) is the perfect selection for that scene, with the juxtaposition of its grim lyrics and bubblegum sound) as does whoever determined the episode titles. S4 in particular was unreal with how the http 400 series status codes linked seamlessly to the episode’s content.

  • I have a number of Indigenous colleagues who were thrilled to see Indigenous characters and perspectives on the screen (see also: Rez Dogs, which hits so many tropes so well). As someone who finally saw their own culture reflected when My Big Fat Greek Wedding came out, the way my heart glowed was memorable, and I hope as many people as possible get to see their own cultures in the same way. I was a bit sad that the Cherokee version was a dub instead of the actors speaking it themselves but loss of language is one of the many shameful legacies of colonization. (In that vein I really liked what Brøn/Brœn did with Danish/Swedish characters speaking to each other in their own languages, and reminds me of English/French Canadian productions like Bon Cop/Bad Cop where they move between languages seamlessly)
