Yikes. We're at a complicated crossroads where discussion around copyright is as important as ever. You're against someone choosing a path that will empower a major corporation, so you want to... checks notes strengthen copyright law? You should work for Disney.
Copyright was meant to be for 30 years. It's corporate greed that push that number up. Every version of consciousness requires the intake of ideas and transforming them. A higher quality and wider variety of ideas the better. I'm all for creators having time to profit from their works. But fighting for more restrictive copyright law is a fight against humanity and A.I.. You're going to lose that fight.
It's a standard that Microsoft maintains. Like, "This is what keyboards for our platform should look like." The only real place this gets enforced is laptops and maybe keyboards bundled with towers running Windows. It's part of the requirements to get the little Windows sticker on your product and allows you to market the hardware with the OS. Beyond that, other manufacturers will usually implement the standard just to be on the same page.
Recontextualizing helps me a lot in these situations. So if I'm in your shoes I'd think: The new problem is that I don't know if I can solve the original problem. Can I do something about that? Yes. Set aside time to focus on it, brainstorm, research, etc. If that comes up fruitful, I'll do what I found, don't worry. If it doesn't, then there's nothing to do, don't worry.
You can set a point in the future to revisit and see if anything's changed, based on how persistent this problem is in your life.
In practice this is easier said than done, of course. I fail to do it sometimes. But it's a solid strategy that has helped me find a lot of peace. Give it a go!
Exactly, I've worked so hard and come so far to reach peace. It feels impossible to retrace all those steps with someone who's barely willing. But at least I can be her stability.
I think this is the right answer. A lot of people say disconnect, but that's only part of it. It's more about refocusing on what you can control. We tend to focus on problems, so we can solve them. But current technology encourages us to focus on problems we can't solve. Leaving most to feel doomed, trapped, anxious, and depressed.
I like The Ascent! That's a fun game. I've heard of a lot of jank, but not experienced much myself. Other than some crashes when loading between areas.
Damn, I'll inform the women who've been lying to me apparently 😢
To your point, everyone has unique ways they want to be interacted with. So explore that on an individual basis with anybody. To my point, that type of interaction would be one of the first places I'd test with a guy I was becoming friends with, but one of the last with a woman I was becoming friends with.
People are so much more "connected" now. Everyone hears about everything that goes on in the world. Well, except the good stuff, that's not engaging. This and modern popular culture has us focused on the state of the world, which we largely have no ability to directly impact. In the past, people have been more concerned with their community and bettering their immediate life.
Now, this allowed for us to bury our heads in the sand and ignore global issues caused by state actors and accept systemic issues. But it also often set people up for success. The problems modern people are expected to solve is shit like climate change. Which, you know, is impossible for a single person to achieve. The irony is that we're actually more alone. People today have fewer close friends and deep relationships than ever before.
The good news is that the world's actually in a better place than it ever has been by many metrics. The woeful feelings are created by societal shifts and pressures. Things we can control in our own life. So I think the answer is to get yourself right and into a good place. Set limits and disconnect from the internet, build close and meaningful IRL friendships. Once you're set, then reach out into the world and do whatever good you can.
A very compelling solution! Allows a model of free use while providing an avenue for business to spend time developing it
