  • Who in the fuck do they think they're fooling? There hasn't been any sort of large corporate antitrust breakup since Bell Systems in the early 80s. They expect us to believe that after 40 years of inaction, suddenly they're going to do their jobs again? This is nothing but pandering to pad approval ratings. I would love to be wrong, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

  • This was exactly my thought. Every student with access to a smartphone has almost the entirety of human knowledge in their pocket. Yet our education system is still using printed books and standardized tests written by for profit corporations. US students spend more time taking standardized tests than they do actually learning subjects and engaging with their teachers.

Our entire education system, like many current systems in place in our society, are antiquated and in dire need to be reimagined/redesigned for the 21st century. Trying to make school more about babysitting and less about education is not the way to go.

  • That man is repeatedly showing the world how stupid he actually is and how little he actually understands about running a company. He has never been in a situation like this where he wasn't surrounded by a bunch of people playing babysitter and doing all the leg work to try to actually get his shit ideas to work. IIRC I saw somewhere this morning that he hadn't even figured out what to call tweets and retweets, he really hadn't thought any further than changing the logo and repeating the same lame idea he had 30 years ago.

  • I used to have a lady I worked with who was like this. She had the common sense of a fucking carrot and was dumb as shit. What was weird is she was highly skilled in the one job she was hired for, the rest of the time she would click on everything and I would had to fix her computer multiple times a week. One time I tried to walk her thru something on the phone and I told her to click on an icon, her response was "Whats an icon?"

  • Money laundering, or rather I should say payoffs. Trump is a pay to play type of guy, so someone is paying him for something thru deceptive shit like this. This is no different than someone paying several million for a piece of art that clearly is not worth that price.

  • Tons of crap like millions of "Fuck spez" all over the place, big ones and small ones, at one point they took up almost a 5th of the visible area. There were multiple statements about never forgetting what was taken from us or joining other social media. There were insults about spez in other languages and a guillotine with a snoo in it labeled Spez

  • Any company that obfuscates all their security practices, refuses to give statistics on security risks and counter measures, and boils their product security down to "Trust us, bro.", doesn't actually give a fuck about your security. They're just the last company who is still able to keeps everything secret so they can make shit up as they go along. Apple's security is a joke and they're just as bad as any other manufacturer on the market, the only difference is they have successfully kept their shit secret for all these years and spent decades convincing people they actually give a fuck about security.

I still remember a few years ago having a conversation with a coworker about her iphone and she bragged about Apple never being hacked and this was right after I had just got done reading an article about a large scale hack on their network. Of course Apple never said a damned thing about it, so I forwarded her the article. IIRC she mumbled something about how the article was probably not accurate. Apple fanatics do some crazy mental gymnastics to justify them spending thousands on a phone thats probably worth about $300 at best(their hardware is on average 1-2 generations behind other devices on the market).

Did you know that most celebrity phone hacks are thru apple accounts?

  • Yeah we're quickly approaching a tipping point where people can no longer scoff at the idea of UBI. The more jobs that get automated, the fewer people working and pumping money back into the economy. This can only go on for so long before the economy completely collapses.

  • You’re NEVER going to get a good option. You vote for the least-worse. Always – lather, rinse, repeat.

That is the entire problem and telling people "Thats just the way it is, deal with it" is not going to solve it. Our "democratic" system is completely broken, we are given the illusion of choice when in reality all candidates are preselected and paraded in front of the public as if they have our best interests at heart, when in reality they all have the same mandate from their corporate overlords. The US is a corporatocracy masquerading as a democracy, we as ordinary citizens have no real say in the matter. That needs to change, full stop!

  • “Everything must have USB-C” sounds great right now, but what about when it gets old and slow or something better comes a long that is worth the switch… we have to wait for the EU to tell everyone it’s ok and make a transition plan for the whole industry?

The entire point of the USB-C thing is so there is a standard charging port across all mobile devices. I doubt this is some sort of attempt at regulating the technology itself. If something faster comes along then it will organically become the new industry standard, just as every other USB charging port up to this point(e.g micro USB, mini USB). Apple is the outlier because they've kept their proprietary charging port for years, for the sole purpose of being able to set their own price for cables, dongles, etc... and preventing people from buying cheaper 3rd party options.

  • Oh man, this sounds like a repeat of the whole debacle with AT&T and their "5Ge" bullshit. As soon as the whole 5G hype started, AT&T decided to claim that their entire network was now "5Ge" and capable of faster speeds. When in reality the "5Ge" label simply meant that the network in that area was flagged to be upgraded to 5G sometime in the near future, there was zero increase in network bandwidth or performance, just a little "5GE" symbol on your phone. IIRC they were taken to court over it and ordered to stop using the "5Ge" label, but they figured out a way to weasel out of it and never followed thru.

  • What keeps me up at night is the thought that one obvious way to reorganize around a much smaller human labor requirement is to have a much smaller population. Isn’t that the radical right end game here? Isn’t that why Very Rich People have gone full fascist?

I've thought about this several times myself. Its like these mfers saw Kingsman and said, lets run with that idea. Wiping out mass swaths of the population would allow them to negate a small portion of human climate impact so they can keep on polluting and add another zero to their quarterly statement. I have no clue if this is something they think about, but one thing I do know is that these people are sick fucks and completely detached from reality. Hoarding extreme wealth is no different from hoarding a house full of random crap, its just their hoarding problem is all digital and doesn't attract roaches.
