  • Edit: I originally had a very hostile response here because the "obtuse" comment struck a nerve.

Some people aren't "obtuse" by choice.

Many people, especially neurodiverse ones, look at your behavior and find it "obtuse" if not outright disingenuous and obfuscatory.

I realized you may also be feeling frustrated and maybe didn't mean to be uncharitable and hostile to differently operating minds.

I may not understand what you were trying to imply, but it crossed my mind that this may be beside the point because the actual point is that we're living in a situation where, if people actually said out loud what was REALLY on their minds, it would get them in trouble. And this is because the world is extremely dangerous and volatile right now, we're all probably feeling very much IN DANGER from it, and not being able to talk about it honestly and plainly is indeed VERY PAINFUL.

So I retract my reflexive and poorly considered demand that you explain yourself, and I merely instead suggest that the person you were responding to wasn't trying to entrap you. I was just as confused about the implication as they were, I surmise, but merely knowing that the implications are ... "Spicy" ... is enough.

Sorry for being mean about it.

  • Yup.

"they can't do that, that's illegal!"

Shame the law doesn't mean Jack Fucking Shit now.

The law is whatever they want it to be at any moment.

  • there are going to be places within the united states that are somewhat less at risk from fascist incursion, such as the pacific northwest/cascadian area, a good bit of california, and especially new england. if you can get to those spots for a while, you might be able to collect yourself and contact the neighboring country either to the north or south and actually coordinate your passage instead of just trying to walk across the border unannounced. I don't think they're going to take too kindly to unauthorized refugees flooding in

  • This is going to happen to more agencies in the US government, and at least one of them is going to turn out to be load-bearing and cause the entire federal government to actually literally, and not in an exaggerated superlative way, cease to function.

And I don't mean in the way you could say "but it already has". I mean: one morning we're going to wake up and the Internet will be offline, the electrical grid will be browning out, and financial systems will be unable to process payments across the entire country, because the control systems have nobody at the helm and no one will have the credential access to perform maintenance upkeep.

  • seems you missed the part where I specifically mentioned how people may want to go someplace other than canada

    be it Canada or elsewhere

wherever they wish to end up.

At this point all you're doing is making excuses to not help.

  • We can't expect Canada to take refugees lightly.

People need someplace where they can feel safe enough to collect themselves so they can cross the border prepared and introduced to the proper receiving channels of the receiving country, be it Canada or elsewhere.

There are places in the United States, though, that will remain somewhat safer for longer. Making it possible for people to clear out of the most dangerous areas to these halfway-havens is crucial to ensuring that they SURVIVE LONG ENOUGH to get their affairs in order for wherever they wish to end up.

  • Do you know if there's an underground railroad to help at-risk women, persons of color, and lgbtq people safely escape the United States yet?

I want to sign up as a conductor because I can't escape myself and as long as I still LOOK like a white dude and the government still thinks I'm cis I can at least be a useful for flying under the radar.

  • The coordinated enshittification is rather disheartening.

I'm still daily driving a Samsung Galaxy Note 9 because all the phones thereafter felt like a downgrade, and the problems like the one referenced in this article have only convinced me further...

I miss 2014, when the note 4 was the flagship. Note 4 kicked ass.

  • the wolves always move the goalpost regarding who, exactly, is the weakest or sickliest. whenver they take the weakest or sickliest, ANOTHER one becomes the weakest/sickliest after that.

  • ha, if cascadia and new england both seceeded simultaneously.

LOOK. LOOK AT US. WE ARE THE NUCLEAR POWERS NOW.

  • i freaking love the idea of Cascadia becoming autonomous and independent. I'd love it if New England did that too.

  • this is America.

a zombie state that doesn't realize it's already dead.

and nobody is willing to do what must be done to stop it.

  • The Democrat aristocracy do not care about winning.

They only care about marketing the disaster of their losses so that they can launder billions of dollars in "vote blue" spam campaigns.

All those donations are going somewhere - to "consultancy firms". To "ad agencies". And then they get to enjoy kickbacks from this mutual relationship.

THEY DON'T NEED TO WIN TO RAKE IN BILLIONS.

and so they don't even try.
