  • And all because some people have a slight advantage in certain games? Forget about it. Someone always has an advantage. This was an absolutely idiotic move.

Let's be real we should know better. Microsoft isn't doing this because they "care about the community" and cheating. They're doing it so they can force controller licensing and line their pockets. If they're framing it as anti-cheat, that's because they know that it would be better accepted than saying something about "Quality", also it's well known that the gaming community has a tendency to accept practices that would be considered draconian outside of Anti-cheat when it's used as Anti-cheat and will attack those who speak out against them.

  • Mine are:

    1. Minecraft
    2. Viewfinder
    3. Superliminal

And that's it... Those are the only games I've played in October on my steam Deck.

  • It's why I don't really think that their main goal is to block cheating, it seems more likely they're doing it to enforce controller exclusivity to get people to pay more for licensed first or second party controllers.

Cheat devices don't care, they'll easily find ways around it, even if it involves copyright or trademark infringement.

  • People fail to realize a major reason MS is doing this, money. They make more money from making people buy first party controllers, likely also from licensing as well.

Cheating tools will find ways around it, this disproportionately affects third party controllers.

Unfortunately many people likely won't speak out against this and the ones that do will be attacked and called cheaters for speaking out against these actions because unfortunately the gaming community has a nasty tendency to accept things that otherwise would be deemed hostile or anti-consumer when they otherwise shouldn't.

  • Doesn't surprise me, they had the crypto issues, auto whitelisting facebook trackers, now this. People just have really low standards I guess, Brave is a case of the open source piece of software that attempts to use being open-source as their reason for being good when in reality it just means they're transparently as bad as Edge or Chrome, they just don't require the user to understand x86 machine code and know about disassembly to figure out what they're doing.

At least some people read the code which probably wouldn't happen at all if it was closed source (reading machine code is a pretty big barrier) so that's at least better than chrome or edge (although no one is pushing Chrome or Edge as "Awesome best privacy browser unlimited money download below").

  • Yep that's how inspiration works, honestly it's not really worth giving credit to the "inspiration is stealing" arguments as all of them are bad faith.

  • They look a bit more like ferrets than cats to me.

  • That's fine, the steam deck is already fast enough as is. What I'm mostly interested in is a next gen steam controller for docked Gameplay. One with the same controls as the deck (Dual Analog) and also has USB-C, also since it would be more easily available than the Old Steam Deck controllers which you can only buy used and in ever increasing scarcity.

  • This issue has me kind of torn, on one hand I feel like people should get second chances in certain situations but on the other hand there are some things that are too severe to so quickly forgive.

I mean the whole reason they were defederated is because they allowed CSAM (referred to as loli) which is a huge legal liability. Even though they seem to have changed their rules and no longer allow said content I don't think it would be a good idea to refederate. If it were something different or less severe I would be open to it, but as it is the prior violations make it seem too risky in my opinion to refederate.

  • Yeah a lot of times the multi-ending ones don't offer many unique experiences.

Though there was this one game I played that largely did, it was a Horror RPGmaker game called Red Haze, by far one of the more expansive multi-ending games (so much so that it's actually not finished, there's supposed to be 26, possibly 27 endings but only about 3/4 of them are there) the endings might be short or require a lot of steps, and some changes propagate into later playthroughs, some of the endings also require you to have done other endings for them to work.

It's a very interesting concept but unfortunately not many games implement multi-ending in this way since it takes a lot more work to do.

  • I pirated almost any game that required it, only ended up signing up in 2018 I don't remember why at the time but I don't think it was to buy games since I didn't buy any until almost a year after creating the account.

  • It really depends on the type of game and how it presents itself.

Some games have a very long and complex story but others might have a shorter story told more indirectly, then there are also multi-ending games which might take longer than a regular story game since you have to replay them. Then there are sandbox games which don't necessarily have a limit on how long they can be since it's dependent on how much you want to put into them.

Ultimately in my opinion there's not really a required amount of time for completion, the thing that I think is most important is whether the games are fun and enjoyable. In the case of story games they can be as long or short as needed depending on how they tell a story.

  • I'm still not seeing them in the blocked section on hexbear.net

But even so it would be a good idea for us to block them as well since leaving them unblocked means they can come back anytime they like.

  • Yeah, that's why I feel like in the case of instances like this they should still be defederated even if they pull the trigger first because they know that they can quietly re-federate later after the whole thing dies down, which seems like what they did.

  • Maybe we should encourage defederation from our end, that way we'll be safe from them since if they defederate us they can change their mind whenever they want and go back to spamming us if they are bored.

  • I can't find us in their blocked list, seems like they might've gone back on that decision.
