  • Yes, just say "I'm from the best US state" next time instead, OP, people will know what you mean.

  • Yeah, that's the problem isn't it? I have to assume that if there was nowhere to work, there'd be less folks coming here illegally. It's just known you can come, work your ass off, get paid pretty well in cash, and send that shit home on a weekly basis. And there's rules about what can get sent home and there are ways folks skirt that all the time. It's a whole economy. And nothing is done about the people facilitating it. It's arresting the drug user, but leaving the dealers in place.

  • The judge can declare certain evidence to be confidential, not to be part of public record, for attorney's eyes only. But with high level security clearances, the judge may not even be able to see it. So who knows!

  • I have discovered bodies in various stages of post mortem, from recent to rigor. Shitting of pants is not a given. And I was an EMT, not just a crazy person.

  • Yeah, I guess I'm still a little confused. You're allowed to deduct State and Local taxes on your federal return. Now it's 10k, the BBB raises it to 40k. I'm just saying states should levy a tax to maximize the SALT deduction for everyone, because you're allowed to do it. But it's not going to happen, just me being silly.

  • Ha, it's definitely not, but I can't go back and change my comment now, so I must accept the shame.

  • This scenario is obviously incredibly unlikely and some dystopian shit. They'll make the ads interactive first, if anything, the interaction being a requirement to move on. In either scenario, I'm just leaving. I pay for Amazon Prime. The delivery service works really well where I live. I won't go on the video service because there might be ads. I am so turned off by ads, it makes it super easy to just not use shit.

Where YouTube Premium, and Spotify, and any number of services that I pay for (on a family plan I share with five friends), differ from Amazon is that none of them are tied to some other valuable service. If any of them hit me with ads, I'm out, ezpz. I was 13 in 2020. I pirated 'everything, because I didn't have any money. I don't pirate anymore because I am 37, and I have money, and I have no problem paying for good services. But I'll equate not having money at 13 with refusing to pay for ads at 37, in that pirating is the solution to both problems.

  • I'm curious why you say this, and I'm not trying to be argumentative. I pay 11k for property taxes, and so with this I get to deduct that 11k from my federal taxes. And if you mean to say that the IRS and the Feds would be like hey, you can't do that, yeah, you're probably right, and I agree. I'm just curious if you had some other rationale for the suggestion. I am no tax expert.

  • I was wondering about this. The new BBB or whatever increases SALT to 40k. I live in Jersey. I would have no problem with NJ just taxing me 40k outright. You just pay 40k to live in NJ. And then I just deduct that 40k from my federal tax burden, bringing it down below 0. What's stopping states from doing this?

  • Can you elaborate a bit, as far as where here is and what coalition? I have ideas but I don't wanna make assumptions. And obviously that's is you feel comfortable doing so, not trying to blow you up. But I'm interested in what's happening elsewhere you know? And I am just not sure I trust the news.

  • I try to focus more locally whenever I get bent out of shape over the more broad scope of life. I can reach out and touch problems in my area, and it feels good to get involved in trying to fix things. Will it solve Gaza? Will it solve Trump? Nah, but maybe I help plant some trees, clean up the brook in town, just get involved. Who knows, maybe it trickles up (ha).

  • I'm not sure you got what I meant, which was that the US may end up dragging others in its wake. Time will tell. I just know it's not just the US that has seen a rise in right wing politics.

And so, yeah, I said it kind of tongue in cheek, but I'm concerned it's the start of a trend. But hey, maybe there's an asteroid inbound.

  • Fortunately, America has an affinity for reality TV, and so they're distracted from whatever else this is a distraction for. I just have a part of me that can't believe what's happening.

  • I don't see Vance flags on people's trucks. I see Trump flags. I just don't know that Vance gets the backing Trump does. I think the Rs capitulate to Trump so much because of his rabies base, and there's this concern they'll be replaced by someone who Trump endorses.

I do think it's all a game for wealthy people, and we will just pay for it one way or another, regardless.

  • Yeah, I don't listen to much at 90bpm. Plenty of 140, and 172 is oh so close, but 90 is tough. I get songs like Ebolarama or Memphis Will be Laid to Waste that get close, but it ends up being a real undertaking getting the venn diagram of music I like and music that goes on my cadence to line up.

There's probably some value to that playlist, but whether I can get a legit hour of music out of that is one thing, and whether I can repeat that so as to not listen to the same songs on repeat is another.

  • I wear a set of bone conduction headphones and listen to audiobooks. I can hear the reading, but can also hear the biker whizzing up behind me without announcing himself. They're fantastic.

  • I live in Jersey and have a trail I run along the river, and despite the fact I just know there's nothing stalking me, this one section goes through some thick bamboo, and I always just imagine something is there.

  • Yeah, I end up trying to run to the cadence of music, and so I don't run to music.

To dial the clock back, I used to be a "naked" runner. Just me, my shoes, and my silkies. I'd see what time I left and what time I got home and kinda estimate my pace, but pretty much would just go run.

I got older, had kids, lost it for probably close to a decade, but got back into running again, but now I listen to audiobooks. Was podcasts for a bit, but now audiobooks. I wear bone conduction headphones, because the only concern is have with the electronics is when I see folks running with noise canceling headphones on. I just can't get behind turning off one of my senses.
