  • Biden commuted Peltier's sentence almost a month ago — January 19 or in the early morning on the 20th, I believe. Why has it taken so long to walk him to the prison gates and say "Buh-bye"?

  • You lost me at "White House claims." Gonna need a reputable source, please.

  • But it'll be a sternly-worded complaint!

  • I dunno, feels fairly productive — I got three blocks out of just one thread.

  • Factcheck: Everyone hasn't told @iriyan@lemmy.ml that they're flat out wrong about TV ads. I haven't had my turn yet.

@iriyan@lemmy.ml, you are flat out wrong about TV ads for alcoholic beverages in the USA. I'm cheerfully hoisting an adult beverage soon as I've posted this, "as seen on TV."

  • This article is well-argued, well-written, and moot. Rule of law has been replaced with rule of Trump, and it's downright quaint to pretend that precedent, illegality, or the constitution are still in play.

  • The so-called energy crisis is another liberal lie, like climate change, black lives matter, gender, women's rights, gravity, etc.

  • The Constitution is gone, law and order is a joke, and sanity is gone from American leadership, but the last safeguard remaining is money.

Exterminating Gazans so the USA can build a New Vegas on the beach cannot be profitable, and when some brighter billionaire explains that to Trump, this particular dipshit idea will be flushed.

  • Even in a minority position, elected officeholders have a bully pulpit, and any US Congresscritter or Senator is among the most politically powerful people in America. Any one of them could call up a local TV station, ask for an interview, and they’d gladly put them on the air, and could actually say something people need to hear. They could come to a rally, post a video to YouTube. Any one of them could walk into one of the Musk-captured bureaucracies and refuse to leave until they're arrested. Anything like that would get people’s attention, and might matter in some small but genuine degree.

That would be leadership. That would be resistance. That would be something. What Dems are doing is damned close to nothing.

  • The Pope is right like a stopped watch, and you know what else is incompatible with Christianity and conscience? The Catholic Church.

  • This is, I think, the most obvious and one of the most immediate problems of Musk's sledgehammer approach. Amazes me how rarely it's said aloud.

  • Great respect for Dorothy Day, and any of the several people attempting to actually follow the teachings of Jesus Christ.

  • I appreciate this take, thanks. It's conceivable that the US intelligence community does some good in the world, but holy fuckin' crap it's inarguable that they do a lot of damage. Putting an absolute fool in charge of intelligence will probably be a disaster, but US intelligence is already a disaster. I'm more concerned about what Trump is doing to (virtually every) other function of government.

  • Could the corruption be any more obvious?

Why, yes. Just wait a few days.

  • In a couple of years, there'll be a small article on page B-41 of the Times, reporting that suicide has skyrocketed among trans youth.

  • My apologies for the pessimism, but any judge's ruling against Trump is at best a temporary delay. All findings that this that or the other Trumpocalypse is unConstitutional will be appealed to the Supreme Court, which is a subsidiary of the Republican Party. The Supremes will say NO to a few lesser outrages to maintain credibility, but YES to all the most outrageous outrages.

The Constitution and the Law no longer matter.
