  • What attention are you objecting to? Is it the "we defederated with them" attention that explains what happened or the "this is why" attention that, well, explains why?

Both of these are big parts of the transparency of Lemmy which I'd much rather see continue

  • I'm very much in agreement with you. I think there's an important value in seeking out those you disagree with. If your values can't stand under scrutiny then you really do need to carefully consider them.

At the same time there's space between what you disagree with and what is harmful to your state of mind for most people. Plenty of people don't want to see anything NSFW and removing that is in no way turning their experience into a bubble.

Nuance is absolutely an important word here but I think the knee jerk isolation response to mention of blocking things is far more harmful than helpful.

  • FWIW I home at midwest.social. It's not strictly for the Midwest US but you'll see a lot of stuff for that region there. It's also left leaning and I think the only instances they've defederated so far have been for extremism.

I'm also using jerboa on my phone and from my inbox there's a speech bubble button which lets me make this response from my inbox.

I don't know if either of these things will help you but I figured I'd offer them just in case they did.

  • Ah but what is enough money for you or I is not enough money for the bigwigs. And since they're obviously more important, as they're at the top, we have to have sure they get enough money even if that means you don't.

But they'll get you a ping pong table so you can stop thinking about how you don't know what you're going to feed your family tonight

  • Which also makes me wonder if climbing the ladder works the same throughout society. Can the apprentice still learning to forge a bat'leth kill the blacksmith and take over his business? Is that murder or did the p'tah have it coming because he couldn't defend himself anymore?

  • Fighting the very laws of reality sounds way more challenging than fighting that dude over there.

But what about boring jobs. Are there Klingon janitors? Klingon repairmen? Klingon construction workers?

There have to be Klingon chefs, right? Isn't replicated gagh inferior? Is blood wine just blood or are there Klingon vinyards?

They didn't always have replicators so there must have been Klingon factory workers

  • Have you tried?

What other job do you get when your experience is tipped work? Or do you go to school to take on debt that will set you back for a long time because the education system is shot too.

  • Or, maybe, the owners of the restaurant make slightly less profit and pay their employees a living wage.

And maybe landlord start handing over deeds to the people paying their mortgages. But we're operating in reality and need to consider things that might happen.

If companies eat the cost of pay increases how will the executives afford that new yacht they've been eyeing?

  • I can actually explain that.

Gmail will ignore periods and things after a plus sign.

So if we assume my name in so if you have Man.And.Wife@gmail it's the same as ManAndWife@gmail as well as M.a.n.A.n.d.W.i.f.e@gmail or anything in between.

You could also use ManAndWife+roebuck@gmail if you wanted to filter out the emails you get from a defunct retailer.

It's all very useful for categorizing emails and tracking down who is selling your email address to spam lists
