I just dont see how its a risk for them to ask 'are you sure?' and I say 'yes, thanks, I'm an adult'. Risk averted.

Yeah, seems like a blanket rule with Up. They said:

Can anyone recommend what to look for in an induction cooktop? I've only briefly used one at my Mum's place and I hated it.
