  • This is more of a kindle lock in thing than a limitation of the Remarkable IMO. I use my remarkable 2 daily for reading. Everything I read is pirated and DRM free though.

If you feel strongly about giving money to the author amazon, then you could limit yourself to only downloading books which you've purchased for your kindle.

  • It will eventually but of course it depends what is really meant by "high end".

As the decades roll by I find I care less and less about "high end" and more and more about avoiding bullshit. While presently the portion of people who would buy such a phone is too few to make manufacturing viable, I suspect that portion will grow in the coming decades as millennials get older.

  • Your entire post is about managing a neurodivergent person. That's a diagnosis.

It's completely inappropriate to make assumptions about a co-worker's mental faculties, and to act on those assumptions.

OP did try talking to the person but frankly, doesn't seem very experienced in that regard.

OP needs to build a working relationship with this guy such that he doesn't respond to feedback as though it's a personal attack. The only way to do that is talking.

  • Sorry mate this is just wrong all the way up and down.

Don't try diagnosing a co-worker, don't go running to HR asking about "equality" for someone you've diagnosed, and as a team leader just separating yourself from your team is not a solution.

  • Sorry mate. IMO this is really bread and butter for a team leader.

You're not children. You don't need to be "nice" or "mean".

    • hey guy
    • I'm really enjoying working with you. You seem to be amazing at x. I'm really hoping I can learn about y from you.
    • If I'm really honest though, I just can't concentrate with the fart noises. I know it's just a joke and maybe others are ok with it but it really disrupts my flow, every time.
    • Anyhow, how have you been going with z.
  • I think there's also just good old poverty and hopelessness.

It seems like life is just getting harder for younger generations. No homes, shit jobs, fix the planet for us, etc etc.

Frustration and feelings of persecution breeds this kind of tribalism and manifests as some kind of hatred.

  • Have you tried... you know... talking to him about it?

I mean a cool headed calm discussion avoid not making farther noises.

I guess it depends on the culture of your work place but honestly I feel like this is something that can be easily resolved and it's part of managing a team.

  • I've been to a bunch of therapists in my time.

They're not just people to talk to about your problems. Find a friend or family member or write a journal or something for that.

Basically, if you have a harmful behavior, a therapist can help you understand what's causing it and maybe correct it. For example, in my case I worry constantly about my work. The the point where it's more or less paralysing and I'm afraid to leave my house. Therapy can kind of help me dig into the underlying misconceptions which cause the worry.

For me, personally, 100s of hours of therapy was nowhere as beneficial as reading a few books about Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT). Learning about these therapies isn't enough, you have to put them into practice which is hard work.

That said, feeling tired and unmotivated can be caused by a plethora of different physical and mental ailments. Honestly I think step 1 would be to talk to a GP. Here in Australia you can get a full panel of bloods that will show if you're deficient in any vitamins.

A mental institution is not the right place for you. We are all of us a bit messed up in the head. If you're 20% messed up and I'm 40% messed up, being somewhere surrounded by people who are 80% or 90% messed up would not be a nice place for either of us to recuperate. Institutions are usually for people who are at risk of harming themselves or others. Another commenter said that's only for involuntary patients but honestly, you'd only volunteer to be in a place like that if you acknowledged that you were at risk of harming yourself or others.

  • Sorry chief. I'm just not going to reply to you any more. In every comment you're pushing a false dichotomy whereby criticizing Israel is somehow tantamount to endorsing Hamas. It's great to disagree on things but this is going nowhere.
