I would say subscriptions are bad because they are proven to make people spend more money then they would have normally. That's why most big companies do it now. Someone buying a game for 30$ and playing it for 1000 hours over a couple years isn't very interesting for the big guys.
I think they have to much to gain from not selling more EVs. Here it's a 2 year waiting list to get an overpriced EV and if you want a gas car it's around 5 months. They don't want people to buy EVs because they invested billions in gas car research and infrastructures. I had a used EV for 6 years but it started failing and i had to switch back to gas because not enough good alternatives. It's a nasty industry for people who want to make a positive change.
