  • More confirmation that C is the canonical URL. Check the

    <head>

    section in the HTML (bottom of the screenshot)

    Remember that posts belong to users, the community only does a retweet/boost of the post.

    This is why it's the link provided by the fediverse icon on Lemmy, and the "View original on..." link in PieFed. On Mbin it's the "Open/Copy original URL"

  • I don't think there's a quick way to get link B, but C is literally called the canonical URL. Check the

    <head>

    section in the HTML (bottom of the screenshot)

  • use the fediverse icon to get the canonical link to a post (which is option C in your list), you can right click it to copy the link

    on piefed.social it's in the overflow menu:

    on Lemmy it's just the icon

    although sometimes I do not grab the canonical link, like if the instance is slow or has poor downtime, I'll use link A or B from your list

    (someone should maybe add this info to the Lemmy docs https://join-lemmy.org/docs/introduction.html idk if piefed has similar docs)

  • C is the original, not B

    for example, this post's permalink is piefed.social not lemmy.world

    points at https://piefed.social/post/1003350

  • unfortunately there's a nearly 0% chance that such a project would make the kind of money that EA wants from their games

  • I actually loved the mechanics of this game, the gunplay and flying controls were so tight

  • So people still have to choose an instance to login to? This is just to save you from creating an account which is like 25 keystrokes and 4 clicks?

    I also don't really want to make things easier for people who get banned often, sounds like it would be easier for trolls to bounce between hundreds of instances with fewer accounts.

  • But then who is your admin team? People don't want to deal with spam and trolls.

  • I have taken a bit to realize this before too. Maybe the hamburger button could be highlighted better when the page is in that narrow layout?

  • Actually I'm not sure that's possible yet! Seems like you have to use Lemmy or something to browse them in that way.

  • The fundamental failure of the fediverse that is limiting us is that accounts are not transportable. We need some decentralised ledger of accounts that can be cryptographically verified with a zero trust system. U just set up a oidc server to do that auth and that plugs into every single fediverse application everywhere.

    I've never felt this was as important as people say, at least here in the Threadiverse I don't see it being important. Can you explain how this would help Lemmy/PieFed?

  • Better UX I think would help slightly, not easy when we have such good decentralization. Maybe PieFed will end up hooking people better?

  • It's old traditional forum software, they recently added ActivityPub support

  • have you tried clicking the hamburger menu in the top right?

  • Yea I don't think it makes any sense to try to sort these items against each other. Maybe section headers would be nice too, a title for the Communities: section, etc?

  • I think if you do this, then the tabs for communities, users, and URL would no longer have the drop down to choose community because it's meaningless for them. They probably wouldn't have the "Top All Time" filter either. There could probably be more differences for each tab, maybe this is the way to go.

  • As far as I remember, the loading indicator disappears when the local search is finished and the search appears to be done, even when the remote search is continuing. This makes finding a new remote community pretty awkward.
