  • And some people vote for Republicans only for a single issue, mostly guns. There suddenly being a pro gun, socially left party as an option would do more damage to the republican base than having another four years of Joe Biden. Honestly at this point I think we start a grass roots effort to elect Queen Latifah without her campaigning.

  • You remind me of myself when I was younger. And I hope you are right.

It's not my job to hold Republicans to task. It's republican voters that do that. It's republican voters that you need to reach. And it is republican voters that you need to convince that this system isn't working. At least with a real leftist party all of the "the LEFT!" Discourse won't be about democrats anymore.

Oh also good luck holding democrats to anything after voting for them.

  • Maybe if the dems never win the Republicans won't have anyone else to blame anymore and they would lose popularity and we could get over them I'm twenty years instead of them gaining steam. Maybe. But climate change is gonna wreck havoc before we try anything other than weak resistance.

Also funny enough my username is yours backwards. Lol

  • They'll just give ot away in the next debt ceiling "debate" so what's the point of electing dems? It is hardly sending a rebuke to congress to elect one of the two parties. I would rather vote for an actual leftist that loses and causes the dems to lose too than vote for a dem and barley win. We don't advance voting in dems that don't represent us, but just represent Republicans not winning. Cia would kill them, but such is life.

  • $500,000,000? I would probably donate like 475m at least cause I'm not a fucking monster that would hoard the level of wealth. Then live more than comfortably off the money you get for having money until I die and pass that fountain of youth on to another family member.

  • A large issue with the US system is we have no left wing party. We have the Cia and fbi attacking leftist ideas across the world and domestic. And we have no option to vote for a party that says, "hey, we have enough, let's make sure all of our citizens can eat" it shouldn't be such a revolutionary thought.

  • I found this when I was in college too. I only ever asked a few questions and they were all closed as duplicates and never found why the answers from those threads solved anything closed to what I was asking. Lol

  • There is a saying that if you have 9 people at a table and a nazi takes a seat you have ten nazis at a table. Inaction against damaging retoric is bad, but actively voting for it is worse. I know the whole nazi thing is very charged right now, but that isn't the point.

If you vote for a republican than you are voting for another person in congress to push the party line. They may not agree with stopping bills that are good for the environment, but if they want to get reelected than they will vote how the party wants when it really matters.

Any vote for a republican is a vote for general public life to be worse for everyone. Your taxes will go up, trump made sure his tax hikes would all hit during the Biden administration, that isn't an accident. And you will get less use out of your tax money with Republicans in charge. So what do you gain by voting for them?

  • Just another few hundred years and we can finally kill that other party and make a new one again. Like back when we killed the Whig party and they became Republicans and fixed everything.

  • I would recommend the pod casts:
The Dollop: if you can take a joke about history you will enjoy the gross tales of America's history.

Stuff You Missed in History Class: a much more sanitized look at all of history with a bit of feminism thrown in.

  • I would argue that the vast majority of comics are full of life lessons and condemnation of societal practices. Like the whole of the x-men is a not subtle at all telling of how people attack "the other". There are religious organizations that attempt to mass murder mutants. The government attempts to create massive robots to --hunt down-- (KEEP THE PEACE) mutants. The whole Civil War arch in the avengers is kind of kicked off by the government trying to have a registry of all mutants so they know what their powers are, some mutants are for it and other against, and they tell vivid stories about why a government can't be trusted with that information.

Not that any of that comes up in the movies, I'll give you that.

You can boil any media down to "it's meant to distract you" but I doubt most things are ad vapid as they appear.

  • Alternative history is taught all the time everywhere. I was shocked when I worked in a school to hear the teacher telling kids about Columbus "discovering" America. When in reality he was put on a pedestal in response to anger against Italian immigrants. They needed a national hero to be treated better. You know, because they were not white.

...maybe there is a connection point of everything we don't teach...
