  • would joining the two countries be better for everyone? in some ways, yes . in a lot of ways, no

but no matter what way you spin it. it falls flat on its face after a bucket of cold realism is thrown over you.
The reality is Canadians would lose their rights as citizens and would be at best, passengers living in poverty. and at worst, would be slaves

hundreds of thousands would go into poverty, be imprisoned by the occupants for not following their rules, or just straight up be deported or murdered. and yes I said occupants, it would be a military occupation for generations before the occupants even thought the new territory was ready to have some new states carved out. Until then look no further than Donetsk and Luhansk in Ukraine, what goes on there? Natives are evicted and killed, Immigrants from the "core" are shipped in to take their homes, the news shows off some north korean style tranquil scenes of everything working out fine, and there's small fake ballot stuffed elections to pretend all is well since the takeover.

there are a select few things I'd be envious of being part of the US over. but the fact remains that im not a fucking idiot, and It would be a net negative for every single person in my country. I'm not going to play devils advocate for people who would be trying to kill us

  • Blow it apart. America doesn't belong with its former Allies.

Its clear that America has no interest in being apart of the free world, they checked out.

Now fuck off and go destroy yourselves in a frenzy over transgender bathroom doors and eggs. The rest of us still have lives to live and futures to protect.

  • Its a watered down and minimalist scary place. at least the Design language and UI of the conspiracy theorist websites are clean and sanitized today.

In the 90s and much of the 2000s, That Web 1.0 style of webpages, even Granny's Knitting website looked terrifying.

    ... And I loved web 1.0

  • Russia took the final step into fascism in 2022.
But its useful to understand that Nazi in Russia, just means someone who opposes Russia, (and Russians can't see their country as anything other than an imperialist warmonger, spheres of influence and fighting in massive wars is a cornerstone of what Russians think is their national identity thanks to decades of propaganda and abuse)

  • the 51st state thing is tabloid level headline nonsense

there is no way it would happen peacefully. , it would only happen after a military invasion or a coup backed by the US. Abandon any idea of Canada becoming a state, it would be occupied territory without legal representation and likely very few if any rights. and it would remain that way for at least a generation or two before any small "new states" were carved out, and collaborators would be allowed to rule over small regions for the interest of keeping the peace. after a healthy amount of colonization of American loyalists, murder of Canadians and imprisonment of dissidents. but all in all. make no mistake, it would be a shooting war, and it would certainly cause civil war in america too, as this is a red line.

you need only look to Eastern Ukraine to see how this sort of thing plays out.

Armed coercion, military invasion, fake referendums, importing migrants to replace the dead and evicted with "colonists'. suppression , imprisonment and murder of locals who dont swear fealty. etc.

  • dont listen to the opinions of tankies. these are so called "socialists" who are so blinded by their hate-boner for western society and love of a faded memory of the Soviets that they can't see that Russia is a capitalist gangster state guilty of all the things they hate.

if someone comes from a .ml instance, its wise to assume they lack critical thinking skills and are consumed by "america bad. russia good" mentality.

  • Joe Rogan's gimmick started out as a knucklehead layman who would just have casual water cooler discussions about things they didnt understand, and he was upfront about how he was an idiot who didnt know anything.

the problem was that other knuckle dragging idiots started thinking that because they agreed with him because of confirmation bias, that he was right and eventually he noticed he had a huge following of people, and started to think that his own dumb opinions must be correct

I still struggle to understand how someone like that could even get traction because every time I've ever looked at a joe rogan podcast he's usually just sitting there agreeing and brownnosing whoever his guest is. "Thats crazy, thats really interesting huh I didnt know that".... 90% of the time

The other 10% of the time he's screaming into the microphone saying shit like "Fuck you Ukraine, you're going to cause WW3 for defending yourself from an invasion"

  • We have enough problems with people coming into the country with false pretenses and fake asylum. The last thing we need is trojan horses from a country thats suddenly started threatening to invade us.

we have a housing crisis being inflamed by an immigration crisis. Now that we are being directley threatened, Canada isn't just a refuge for people to use as a safety net to hide in. If they want to come to the country they can apply through the usual process, but there isn't any special relationship anymore. Thats dead.

if things get really bad, and the US devolves into a civil war, (we will be a part of it). then we can talk about taking in people. but for now its just way too much of a risk for very little reward. Unless they're going to bring their businesses and jobs with them, they would be consumers, not contributors. and we can't afford that as the world inches closer to world war than its ever been. especially now that America is not a reliable ally and more importantly, a threat.

  • Russia's Army is spent. All they are able to do against Europe in the short term is lob missiles and some artillery, and send poorly equipped 2nd and 3rd rate units at them now.

dont get me wrong, It'd be bloody. itd no longer be the decisive ass kicking that it would have prior to the US's fascist swerve. But Europe still has enough firepower to bring Russia to a halt. Russia expended its ability to wage large scale ground war in Ukraine.

I dont know if you're American, Im not saying that. But Americans seem to grossly overfixate on how "weak" Europe is. They have gaps in their capability if America was to fuck off tommorow. But they are far from helpless. Europe's weakness is political will to switch from butter to guns, but they still have guns.
