  • So the rock bottom thing, it comes from the AA idea that people are helpless to fix themselves and must submit to god/a higher power. It's completely untrue that you must hit anything and plenty get help very early on having realised they have an issue.

This is a more detailed breakdown - https://www.smartrecovery.org/the-flawed-psychology-of-forcing-people-to-hit-rock-bottom/

An abstinence only approach has also been debunked. Again, it comes from the AA teachings that you are powerless. Some people may choose abstinence for a wide range of reasons, it sounds like it's worked for you and thats ace but it's not the only approach to problematic drinking and many succesful programs now work on moderation or other methods of reduction.

This study found that abstinence and reduction programs have similar levels of success - https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33188563/

The powerlessness comment, I think I've covered through the other points.

Finally, this article I think covers the points I've missed (and the ones I haven't tbf) - https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2015/04/the-irrationality-of-alcoholics-anonymous/386255/

  • Something that might come up in a commercial farm escape is debeaking. They cut the end off the beak to stop them fighting in crowded conditions and that will decrease their chances to defend themselves in the wild.

  • https://www.youtube.com/@ThePointeShop/videos - The Pointe Shop - It's a channel about Pointe shoes/ballet. I've never done ballet, I know nothing about the shoes, this woman is so entertaining and the videos are pretty accesible if you go in with no knowledge.

https://www.youtube.com/@GrowingUpInScientology/videos - Growing up in Scientology - I didn't grow up in scientology, never had anything to do with it, but the stories of abuse in a cult and eventual escaping are really important. I've even signed up as a volunteer to help people if they need to escape.

https://www.youtube.com/@SnakeDiscovery/videos - Snake Discovery - It's mainly baby snakes hatching, I have no explanation for why I like this but the people are super nice, I've followed this for like 5 years. It's ridiculous

https://www.youtube.com/@VivHairTherapy/videos - Viv Hair Therapy - she does videos about styles on black hair, I'm not black, I don't do anyones hair, but she's so lovely and I like watching.

  • I'm a bit like this, like less extreme at either end but I'm much more confident when drunk, I feel good about myself, I take pictures, I laugh loudly at jokes, I tell my own jokes. I think it's closer to my true self. As a kid I was very outgoing, I'd talk to anyone, I was a theatre kid and did solos in the choir. Life has made me a much more reserved person, slow to speak and more happy to listen. Not a bad thing really but probably not my natural personality.

  • I had a similar issue recently and ended up going for a HP Pavilion. It's a versatile machine, you can do pretty much anything on it, it's in a metal case so sturdy to carry about, and you can get a bigger screen so you can multitask. I feel like you get quite a bit of laptop for your money.

I was also considering a macbook, I use them for work a lot so I'm used to them, but I felt like specs wise I was looking at lower specs and a lot more money.

  • I saw this with some friends, about 5 minutes in my friend leaned over and was like 'so he's a ghost too and he doesn't realise?' and I was like "Ohh, I hadn't realised that yet". We watched the rest of the film thinking how sad it was that his wife didn't know he was there, then at the end and that was revealed it was super confusing.

  • The virus is causing both in a roundabout way, but congestion does cause the headache in most colds and flu (and also covid, which is where I learnt this, working with covid patients). It's because your sinuses are blocked, and they cause pain behind the eyes, across the forehead, and more generally the front of your brain as it spreads.

Most people will take a painkiller for the headache, but usually a decongestant is actually more effective and longer lasting.
