Judge Tries to Stop Trump From Hiding His Money

  • Shouldn't "creative use" be followed by "/s"?

  • According to the article, Biden advisors are afraid Newsom may initiate a run.

  • I've seen Newsom debate political opponents. If anybody can take DeSantis on, it's him. He comes prepared and has an almost encyclopedic memory of current policy and politics.

  • He was, as usual, attempting a half-assed legal maneuver to shield his money. A move his lawyers would have told him was nonsense.

  • And you know they won't stop there. How long before your personal life comes under their scrutiny?

  • The only propaganda to break the sound barrier.

  • In one way, this can actually be seen as a good thing for Biden. It is the duty of the Senate to advise and consent. The Senate has effectively abdicated that duty. The job of doing appointments for the military now rests solely in the hands of the executive branch, President Biden.

  • It may have been the only job in the area for which she was qualified. As for why she didn't just walk off? One simple answer: employer-tied health insurance.

  • I wonder how many lawyers have already offered to work the case pro bono.

  • Nearly a year later, Issa and her husband, Fiston Rukengeza, on behalf of themselves and their unborn child, sued TDCJ and three of Issa’s supervisors — Brandy Hooper, Desmond Thompson and Alonzo Hammond. They argue the state caused the death of their child by violating state and federal laws as well as the U.S. Constitution, and they are seeking money to cover medical costs and funeral expenses and to compensate for pain and suffering.

But the prison agency and the Texas attorney general’s office, which has staked its reputation on “defending the unborn” all the way up to the U.S. Supreme Court, are arguing the agency shouldn’t be held responsible for the stillbirth because staff didn’t break the law. Plus, they said, it’s not clear that Issa’s fetus had rights as a person.

“Just because several statutes define an individual to include an unborn child does not mean that the Fourteenth Amendment does the same,” the Texas attorney general’s office wrote in a March footnote, referring to the constitutional right to life.

For more than two decades, in legislation passed by lawmakers and defended in court by the attorney general’s office, Texas has insisted “unborn children” be recognized as people starting at fertilization. And although it has traditionally referred to all stages of pregnancy, from fertilized egg to birth, as an unborn child, the state repeatedly referred to Issa’s stillborn baby as a fetus in legal briefings.

Of course they weren't going to stick to one moral definition. It has never been about morality. It's always been about control. At least his time, they said it openly.

    1. It's refreshing to see someone in Texas arguing against the attempts to put religion in the classroom.
    2. There is another way to present an argument against this kind of attempt at whitewashing history. It goes like this: I fully understand that American children are snowflakes, and weak of mind. Children in Europe, especially Germany, are required to learn about the histories of their countries with an emphasis on the Holocaust. How it happened, why it happened, and an emphasis on preventing it from happening again. I entirely agree that American children are so lacking in strength of will that they are incapable of facing what their ancestors did without having their entire world view come crashing down, and possibly requiring lifelong therapy.

Feel free to use the second argument on any MAGA and watch their face. BTW, I went through the US Public School System and somehow managed to escape with an education despite it.

  • How long do you think it will be before degrees issued by Florida institutions are no longer recognized outside of that hell hole?

  • Stupid doesn't just run in that family, it gallops.

  • He's never going to use any of that money to help other GOP candidates, so it should be considered a loss by them. The upside is that he'll just beg his cultists to donate more to his campaign and his defense fund, and that will rob GOP candidates of funds they need.

  • Doesn't want to get sanctioned for suborning perjury/wasting the court's time like his previous ones?

  • Do you suppose they would take offense to distributing copies of "Demon Haunted World" in Kuwait?

  • Oh, have I got a list for them... Let me get out that RNC member sheet.
