  • I get that it's the aim but I am gonna be blunt. I never trusted any tracher. I liked a few, but that's it...and when I grew up, this was mirrored in most of the male group. Girls tended to be more open to teachers, but that's it. Is it any different today?

  • Nah, they were where I live. Now they are closed due to sanitary concerns or something. In old, post soviet building I lived they removed chutes and turned bottom level (where the big trash containers were) into expanded lift, so disabled people could ride all the way to ground level.

  • The absolute best part is...it's USA. The moment your military gets actually slight spook, of the you know, short gasp variety...you know it because your military complex temporarily forgets limits of today's technology and produces some sci-fi shit. And yet ya all are still able to be made to be scared of... looks into his book Mexico and...Iran...

  • Where I live my father got a solid quote to pay each month. My mother could sue for more, however, when his income rose. So this dude, after posting this online, opened the gate for the woman to sue his employee, at least if it happened here.

  • Wanting to be billionaire is not to be mentally ill. Who doesn't like power without responsibility? Whatever moral framework you've got, most folk wouldn't subscribe to when given option to be billionaire. Sorry, but that's reality - power makes people drunk, and it's only natural for us to want power - power to make our families and friends live better, to make people we despise grovel, to have all we want. It takes discipline and ideals to veer off into helping everyone.

And I agree with the lofe being made harder being the reason, but it doesn't really apply to original comment I replied to.

  • Lemmy tends to have skewed perception of such things. Truth is, most people want money. As much as possible in as short time as possible. There's a multitude of reasons, from wanting a luxurious life, to simply wanting to not have to worry about the money or to retire early, but pretty much everyone wants money. Look at how many folk join the lottery.

Hell, most of Lemmy wants student debt to be forgotten. That's gaining money, just in reverse order. Same with distributed wealth etc.

World spins around money, no matter how you look at it.

But sure as hell I wouldn't like to be in a place I hate to earn it. :/

  • Okay, honestly? Hear me out because as an European one thing stood out to me.

Why didn't NYPD catch him? Because he fled using... public communication transportation. It's too out of this world for them to be able to track him down. No protocols. No nothing. Because nobody, ever, uses public communication in USA.

Edit: And it seems I am the bigger joke for writing public communication when half-asleep. ._.

  • I will, no problem. Luddites have no place today, thank you.

Heck, cashiers are still wprking where I live. One of them just gets assigned to 6 or 8 self checkouts instead of normal register.

  • Poland, 1,1% according to google, your point?

Both Japan and Korea have very specific cultures, and yeah, they screw their work life balance. IIRC Japan is currently working on changing that. But that's their culture - part of their nation - and flooding it with immigrants erases not only bad parts but also good ones. Hell, look at Germany that struggles with immigrants as far as I know.

    1. If you are USA citizen, you have the right to bear arms in case goverment turns evil
    2. While yiur giv turned incompeten/insensitive instead, it also soldd itself out to corporations.
    3. Thus, corporations = gov
    4. Thus, you have right to bear arms in case corporations turn evil
  • Maybe economically yeah, I rather thought culture wise where relying too much on immigrants brings it's own set of problems.

Also, I know that what you speak of is normal, but damn does it sound bad..."come to us to work for pennies in jobs we would rather not do"...

  • There is propaganda and then there is fact that nobody teaches their children about budgeting and financial responsibility. Do not treat credit like money you own, do not allow yourself to perceive luxury items as something you need, be mindful of what you can actually afford. Today people seem to have problems with these ideas - lack of education on the topic and aggressive ad campaigns by corporations resulted in that.

But while we cannot change masses, we not only can, but we should point this out to as many people as we can. Often all you need to notice something is for someone else to ask question about why that happens. And yeah, sure, maybe helping one or two people won't make a dent, and even then these people may already be past saving or simply unable to pick up new habits. But if every mindful person tries to help someone else at least once, shift in society is guaranteed. And such shift will result, maybe, in actual change.

And, on a more flat approach - being aware of your own budgeting limits, spending power and how much money you use is not actually yours tends to radicalize people against the rich.

  • I'm going to be brutally honest.

    1. Corporations are shitstains and prey upon people's minds and wants.
    2. People today are too entitled / greedy.

No. You don't need that phone to survive, solid but low end one will easily carry you next 3-5 years. No, you do not need to go for McD for breakfast - eat a homemade sandwhich. Takes the same amount of time it'd take to get McD served to you.

But today a lot of folk take a lot of shit for granted or worse, needed, and it's pitiful.

Fuck, that also is due to corporate ads and framing. But people need to wake up and stop fueling this shit on their own. And stop blaming schools - this shit is for parents to teach ffs, like the rest of actual household chores.

Also I am not arguing for everyone to live frugally but instead to learn a mindful way of spending. If you actually have free money, money you own and not a credit, then sure, treat yourself.

  • I admit I lack the ground to stand on here, so I'll back off. Most of my experience is more of me and people I know - I know I had sbortcomings and mental problems due to parents divorce, again know few people who were raised withoit father. That's mostly what influences my view.

However examples you raised are hella interesting, but I also cannot help but wonder how these children grow up compared to 2+1/2+2 family. There are for sure differences - after all even higher amount of children bears high influence - but I wonder what these are. Will look for it later. Thanks for dropping these.

    1. I do not agree that people in such kind of relationship are any worse for each other than in normal case. At least if they entered it knowing that it's something that works for them. So i won't dispute this.
    2. About children tho...isn't it actually proven that children need designated father and mother figure? I know of few people who didn't have father figure and they are all kinda damaged. Though probably such family could simply designate two main guardians and treat rest as close aunts and uncles...so dunno, maybe a moot point.
