Of course the YouTube comments are disgusting. Hamas are horrid barbarians for this, that is not excusing Israel's history of human rights violations. But there is nothing about this act that is justifiable.
Yeah an hour and a few gold isn't really a penalty at all in 5e with how easy it is to get money. Even at low levels imo. I've been doing this gag since level two (we're now level fourteen) and the cost was a joke then too.
Because 5e has no mechanical incentive to keep familiars alive I made it a running joke to repeatedly kill my familiar with my AOE spells. It dies every combat session and normally to my own fireballs or lightning bolts. My familiar hates my wizard but is contractually obligated (magically bound) to obey my orders. When it glares at me I'll yell "you don't have a union!" made the GM laugh and the Ranger gasp the first time lol
But I think the GM is making a familiar union will my owl familiar as the founder.
That's not what the comment thread was talking about. It wasn't about removing the instance from running just to stop advertising it on the join-lemmy site and they refused.
Edit: To the responses, great, it's gone. Removing that pedo content shows that they're not too overworked to purge content like that from join-lemmy. So there's no reason for them not to remove the Nazi instances being advertised on the front page of join-lemmy. We'll just look the other way on that one I guess.
You can still be shitty in those communities too, but with better moderation tools other people who want a space without bigots and hatred can still maintain those. So we can have both, right now it's mainly the shitty people that are happy. Which is not good for building lasting communities.
But in the last dev AMA they made it clear that wasn't a priority. Honestly it killed a large chunk of excitement I had about Lemmy. Without ways for mods to keep the communities free of shit heads the communities won't be sustainable and will stop growing.
Sounds like a weird version of a political compass but with real world effects instead of terrible memes.
