  • I remember enjoying the elemental guns (Maliwan) a lot in both BL1 and BL2. It's a shame it took till the Pre-Sequel to add ice!

I'd argue the throw-to-reload mechanic isn't in other games because it's a gimmick.

The other letdowns in BL2 were A) the Hyperion "reverse kick" guns that were only accurate after you emptied most of the magazine, and B) the 3-barrel Gattling guns with magazines that were way too small to be worth spinning up. I swear these together were 25% of my pickups and just a waste of time. It feels bad to die while you're actively holding the trigger right in the baddie's face.

Many of the legendary guns and unique grenade effects were pretty fun in BL2 though. Those were both solid improvements.

  • I thought the weapons were a big step down in BL2. I swear 50% of the guns I found were gimmicks (e.g. throw it as a grenade to reload) but not actually all that effective.

Torgue weapons were especially bad. Yeah I know everyone loves Mr. Torgue and explosions are fun, but those guns are so inaccurate they can't hit anything >2 meters away. I'd take a weapon that can reliably hit a target any day.

The devs also got rid of the Atlas and S&S brands from BL1. Those were almost always my pick unless so it was a real letdown to see them missing in BL2.

  • I mean if you're down to NetBSD as your pick you've probably already made some big concessions so plugging into Ethernet isn't a huge leap at that point.

  • Most likely yes, as many others have said. Of course you'll likely have to pick a very lightweight DE.

As a fallback there is always NetBSD.

  • I almost forgot about SimEarth. For some reason I was allowed to play it in grade school computer lab. I wish they would remake it so I can recreate my sentient cephalopod uprising, except with graphics that aren't complete ass.

I never played SimLife. But no, Spore is really not like SimEarth at all. As the other person said, Spore is disappointingly shallow on all levels.

  • Does it have to be set in America? I'd think the genre could work almost anywhere with technological cities.

  • Ha, I had one and it's what first came to mind too. Pretty useless.

  • While I don't appreciate the undocumented stealth moderation (particularly where I named the place in the photo), my other deleted comment was super rude and definitely broke rule #1. I was out of line, so better that it's gone.

Sorry WarmSoda, you didn't deserve the hostility. Carry on, and may you avoid future asteroids.

  • Yeah you're right. I was in a foul mood and shouldn't have commented. Sorry 😞

  • Maybe not on this instance but I tend to browse "everything" (not just "subscribed") since the Lemmyverse isn't that big.

    EDIT: Here's a previous one. https://lemmy.ml/post/17286836

Also you should totally go there, it's pretty cool IRL :)

  • This one is really making the c/whitepeopletwitter community title seems extra ridiculous.

  • Especially if you light the 151 on fire first.

  • Euclidean G-llamatry

  • Excuse me, that's the weed patio. The hookah goes on the porch.

  • For me the fun is learning to be more like Geralt. When I start as a player I don't have those instincts, and the progression of collecting more recipes and ingredients and learning what exactly I need to prep for the monster around the corner is an interesting challenge and good feedback loop. I don't want the game to do that for me, it would be too much like autopilot.

  • That's somewhat hyperbolic, though it's a worthy concern. I live in the US and none of my encounters with police have been like that whatsoever, but then again I'm white and midwestern and not financially underprivileged. I've seen cops thoughtfully de-escalate or give genuine selfless help firsthand.

I would still say ACAB, but that's moreso due to the very abusable powers and excessive undue protections that political states give them. It's a systemic problem, but not proscriptive of individual encounters.
