  • You can't even trust yourself or a friend to give an accurate depiction of reality. Reality is a totality of subjective consensus.

Science is so easily perverted by bias, that is why peer review is so important. There was a study done on saturated fats and their role in heart disease after Eisenhower had a heart attack in the 50s. The study concluded that there was a direct correlation between the amount of saturated fats and the increase in heart disease based on data gathered from 6 countries. Problem was that the study actually looked at 22 countries and they cherry-picked the 6 countries that showed that correlation and looking at all 22 countries showed no correlation. That is how saturated fats became maligned in nutritional guidelines. Best part? The scientist that did the study in the 50s was largely biased against saturated fats because he believed that cholesterol in the arteries had to be linked to fat in meat because it looked like animal fat. Real "meat makes maggots" logic, as disprovent by Redi.

Honestly, it would be more like the 90s. We didn't have smartphones. We barely had the internet. We didn't have 24/7 news media owned by like 4 people. Granted, bullshit, rumor, and lies spread really easily because we couldn't Google anything that contradicted it; but nobody looks into anything that confirms a personal bias today anyways.

  • SSRIs and gacha games would do more to win the war than yarn balls.

Just draw a square on the ground with some Genshin wishes and Prozac in them and the war would be over in a month.

  • Most of us are drinking out of lead cups and some of us are doing so because of people harassing others to drink from lead cups because they drink from lead cups.

Big Lead Cup has designed marketing that takes advantage of primative psychology and biochemistry to encourage us to drink from lead cups because their profitability is directly tied to increased lead cup usage. If we don't drink from lead cups enough, they can't have a bigger boat.

The anti-lead cup groups are reactionary to the detrimental effects of lead cup use on society and advocate for cups with less lead in them. Of course, the pro-lead cup brains are so leaded that they think themselves the same ones.

Here I am, drinking from a lead-free cup half full of mercury thinking I am better and can see reality with a sane mind, mad as a hatter.

  • Hawk Nearly Killed!

    Jump
  • This isn't always the case.

I had a salmon flaverolle rooster, one of the stereotypical cockfighting breeds, known for their aggression and beautiful plumage.

A raccoon got into the coop and mortally wounded one hen and killed the hen that was the only one to stand up and fight, a silkie. Silkies are tiny fluffy luxury birds with fluffy feathers on their feet, they don't have good meat and lay eggs with a diameter smaller than a quarter. She was the only hen that scared the rooster because she beat the hell out of him when he tried to breed her a few times. She ruled the roost with tiny fluffy feet and handled disputes between birds 3-4x her size without issue.

The rooster? Unharmed entirely and found cowering on the top roost. He wouldn't fight a raccoon, but he would always try to disembowel me when I went into the coop.

  • Knives have an advantage at close range at causing potentially fatal damage vs a gun, but a gun can still kill you if you don't gain control of the muzzle. With a common pocket knife, your best bet is a fatal throat stab or slash to ending the threat because anywhere else you can't reach or won't act fast enough. Maybe you can disable an arm if you can separate a muscle or sever a tendon in the forearm, but we are getting into experienced knife combat there. Not that knives are relevant, we were talking bats and a sock with coins.

A gun would easy win against someone with a bat or coins in a sock, the gunman only has to get in contact range to reduce swing force or get out of contact range. The bat or sock with coins is a 3-4ft radius of danger, the gun basically has range dependant on skill.

  • Every group of white supremacists should film themselves being pummeled in order to change recruitment numbers. Any sane mind would appreciate them having that strategy nationwide.

  • My teacher was a punk back his day and fondly told us about how him and his friends would beat the crap out of Nazi punks when they would show up at the spots. He was born in Germany and his parents lived through the tiny mustache man period, so I am sure it was an act of German and family pride to address them appropriately. He would get a twinkle in his eye, as if recalling a fond memory that brought him joy.

Best damn teacher anyone could hope for.

  • Those subsidies are a fart in the wind against home prices inflated by artificial scarcity cause by passive income seekers and restrictive building codes that prevent low income and high density housing. It is like retailers giving a 10% discount for a week when they raise the prices 15%.

Such a weak and empty gesture to pander to voters. It is better than nothing, but that shouldn't be the bar they campaign on. Dems need to grow some teeth.

  • The Republican strategy is to deport illegal immigrants and free up the housing they occupy, there by increasing supply and lowering demand.

The Democrat strategy is to build more low income housing and allow in anybody who wants to come here. Increasing supply slowly and increasing demand substantially.

Neither really push for a program to build low income housing and 1500sqft starter homes that are reasonably priced.

What is a starter home today is 2500sqft, and that is only because builders make more money on those than 1500sqft.
